My 2005 Rene keyfob is deceased! I spoke with a dealer in the states and they said only way to fix was to hook jeep up to the Chryseler drb machine to program or reprogram my keyfob. Anyone know of any other options? I am in Ecuador, and there is no dealer here with this machine.

Thanks!

Don't you have a second remote? Perhaps the battery needs to be replaced in the dead one.

I bought a new keyless remote for my Mitsubishi Galant a while back. In order to get the car to recognize the signal I had to use the OBD connector. I connected pins 1 and 3 (I think) and had to push the emergency flashers button in a number of times. When I did this, the car was ready to learn the signals from the fobs.

Since this is a KJ forum, my point is, I don't think that a dealer with this machine is necessary. Look around a bit more on the internet and I think that you will find something.

I do agree with the earlier post howerver. Check the battery first. The KJ is not going to just "forget" the signal it has learned unless there is catastrophic failure and the eeprom is erased. Try the simple solution first.

It looks like the instructions are a bit different for a Liberty. You must have one working remote in order to program a new one. This is what I learned for a 2004 Liberty:

1. turn ignition to 'ON'
2. press and hold 'UNLOCK' on a GOOD PROGRAMMED fob for at least 4 but not more than 10 seconds.
3. press and release both the 'LOCK' and the 'UNLOCK' buttons on the fob you want to program simultanously.
4. press and release any other button on the fob you want to program. A chime should sound in the Liberty confirming the programming.
5. This is important - it doesn't really spell this out in the owners manual but at this point your previously unprogrammed fob works - but - your previously programmed one WON'T! You now have to press both the 'LOCK' and 'UNLOCK' buttons on the previously programmed one and then press and release any other button and again you should hear the chime and then you will have two programmed fobs. They may not immediately work, you may have to turn the ignition off and then on again.

You didn't say how old ure fob was but b4 u try to reprogram it try this:
If u have replaced the battery or know the battery isn't the answer and it still doesn't work:

Take apart the fob. Remove the battery. Pull apart the rubber/button pad from the circuit board section. Take everything out of the plastic fob and wash the fob body and the rubber button pad thoroughly with soap and water. Wipe down the rubber pad but as u do so be sure to "burnish" (clean thoroughly) the black areas which make actual contact with the traces on the circuit board. These are carbon impregnated rubber pads and very prone to collecting grease and dirt thus detroying thier conductivity. Also clean the associated traces on the circuit board half. I use a paper tower or napkin as it is soft enough to not damage but rough enough to clean any residue off. You will actually see a little black area on the paper towel from dirt, corrosion, etc. Wipe off both sides of the battery as well. Reassemble and nine times out of 10 your remote will magically work again!
I've used this trick a whole bunch of times on mine and other peoples remotes that were thought to be dead. You'd be surprised how much crud these things pick up from fingers, pockets, etc. You'll actually see a whole colection of crud around the button openings when u dissasemble the fob.

I finally tracked down the problem with my keyfobs that had stopped working.
I found a dealer with the drb machine, however we determined that the datamodule must be bad as the machine didnt turn on (and we tested it with another liberty on site). Then we used a volt meter to check for current in the datamodule and found none, then moved to the fuses. Fuse #33 -datamodule (10amp) was bad. We replaced the fuse and the keys instantly starting working again. We didnt even have to use the drb machine.

I didnt realize that the datamodule was the receiver of the keyfob radio signal or I suppose it would have dawned on me to check that this was working.

Lesson learned for me, hope no one else experiences this same problem but if you do, read this thread and maybe your fix will be a simple 10amp fuse!!!

JAMSKJ,

Your a Life saver, Same issue , Keyless wouldn't work. Just about to pull my hair out( or what's left) when I read your post.

Checked my#33 fuse and sure enough it was blown! Must have touched a wire when installing my EVIC.

Working fine now!

Thanks!!
