Hello Lost,

Long time reader, I appreciate all the information first of all. I searched through (and read one by one) dozens of pages of posts just to familiarize myself with common knowledge and regularly asked questions. There's one topic I would appreciate a little help with. If this is out there somewhere, I just couldn't find it and I'm sorry.
--------------------------------------

I am wiring a small subwoofer and amp to an aftermarket Head Unit (2011 KK sport). I've done this before, so the wiring itself is no issue. (I'll be running power through the rubber boot on the drivers side) But before I start prying on plastic looking for a channel by the door to run the wire, I was hoping someone had a document or photos/video of how the plastic trim is removed. I'd like to avoid damaging/breaking tabs etc.

I'm also trying to hide the amplifier, and haven't decided on a location. Recommendations would definitely be appreciated. In my old WJ, it just went under the rear seat. It doesn't seem there's enough room in that location in the KK.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

In the KK all the interior trim is held on with metal clips that should release if you pull the plastic straight out. A trim removal stick helps. There are a few screws around the tailgate area and above the seatbelt anchors on the B pillars, but I'm sure you'll find those. I ran wires for my CB radio antenna from the dash area under the doors and back to the rear corner, so there is definitely room for wires under the plastic trim.

In terms of room for an amp, it would have to be the right size and shape to fit under the back seat, because the back seat lowers to the floor as you fold it down. The mechanism could crush something that is not designed to be there.

You could always mount your amp on the passengers side of the trunk in the spot where the factory subwoofer goes. Since my Jeep didn't come with that option I have a narrow pocket there that I put odds and ends in. I've also seen one person install their amp under the rear floor, but if I remember correctly they had to make a new floor piece to replace the plastic one from the factory to give them enough room for the amp plus adequate venting.

Thanks,

I may document my little project with some photos or a video. It probably won't happen until after the Holidays. :JEEPIN:
