Plain and simple. Report the dealer/manager to Chrysler. I have been dealership service manager (not Jeep) and that was a stupid comment for someone in a customer service position to say. Chrysler should have him washing cars instead of being in a management position.

I take mine in all the time with mud all over it. You know what, they fix it without a question and even put it through the wash before they give it back to me. And this is a dealership that is in downtown INDY. The nearest mud is 30 min away. I say call DCX and then find another dealer.

Your dealer is so full of it. I'd definitely complain to DC about them. When I took my Liberty on my test drive, my salesperson took me to the mountains to show me what it could do. I did a 30+ mile test drive and more than 20 of that off the pavement.

well here is the email i got back..basically saying they cant do a thing.

We have received your email regarding your recent service experience
at Buchanan & Young, INC.

I regret your dissatisfaction with the service you received and
appreciate the time and effort you took to bring this matter to my
attention.

We realize DaimlerChrysler's reputation depends in part on the quality
of service provided by our dealers. Because DaimlerChrysler dealers are
independently owned businesses, they are responsible for addressing
concerns directly related to their sales and service activities, as well
as their personnel. Although DaimlerChrysler does not have the
authority to resolve concerns related to dealer workmanship, service
scheduling, or repair pricing, you may want to pursue the matter
directly with dealership management for further resolution.

Information received from customers such as yourself enables better
evaluation of dealers' service activities. Your complaint will be
retained in the dealer's file. I have also sent a copy of your complaint
to the local business center that oversees the dealership.

Thank you again for your email.
Sincerely,

Jennifer

What tone is DC setting by saying what they are saying in the email to you? I am a little ashamed. Maybe they can't take care of it but a dealership is flat out misrepresenting the Liberty. They are going against everything that is stated on Jeeps website and pamphlets. Someone write a form letter that all of us can sign. I understand someone getting the warranty voided because they are ABUSING the vehicle. More and more the days of customer service are being placed at number 2 and more priority is placed on the bottom line. Too bad businesses think like that. Sure you'll hit your numbers now but you won't be in it for the long haul!!

I would simply ask for a copy of the DCX disclamier saying the KJ can't be driven off road. Then I would proceed to ask this dealer if he was prepaired to be called to federal court to testify that DCX is knowingly false advertising the KJ when it shows it on national TV driving through mud, water, etc.. just like the wrangler spot I seen the other night. If not, then he needs to shut up, get the regional service manager on the phone and explain to him why they won't touch your jeep.

If it's too dirty for them to work on, then tell them to wash the darn thing.

I took mine into a dealer yesterday for the DC recall to get it reprogramed and it was a rainy day and I had been out playing in the mud -- and they worked on mine and even washed it for me at no cost -- and it wasnt even the dealer I bought it from. :D

That email that you received is a automated form letter. I received the same one worded the same way. You know, this would make a great civil case. You have your choice of suing either the dealer or DCX. Sue the dealer for false sales claims of the lib being off road worthy. Or you could sue DCX for false advertising on behalf of the dealer claims that the lib isn't made to go off pavement. And allthat they put out that says it is trail rated. Remember that the dealer is representing DCX. They need to hold the dealership responsible for their actions..

I can easily see a repair shop (dealer or independent) not wanting to work on a vehicle covered in grease or mud, especially if it's involves the components that are in question. Can't see them turning it away. More likely to go at it with the pressure washer (and bill you for it) before doing the work. A much more tactful way of handling this would be; "We need to clean this area before can perform your required service. This isn't reimbursed under your warranty."

I agree with that. I fully go against the dealers idea of telling customers they can't "perform service work with the vehicle being dirty". However, depending on how *dirty* the vehicle was. I wouldn't want to be underneath or putting my hands in the service areas while mud is all over the place. I'm not taking the dealers side to deny service and turn customers away. But using common sense, if your Jeep is packed with mud and you need it serviced drive through the quarter wash really quick.

I'm preparing to take my Lib into the dealership for service soon. I have mud built up in areas of the under carriage, but its not clumpy where its too dirty. I'll also want to know how they handle the idea of my lift, considering this will be my first time walking into a dealership with lift/tires/mud etc...

I do have to admit this is a personal quirk. Anytime I have to wrench on a machine, the first stop is the wash bay. When I owned a garage, a steam cleaner/pressure washer was one of our first big tool purchases. Absolutely refused to pay a skilled mechanic to scrape through grease (or mud) on a project. Always steam cleaned them first (I didn't care if it was a bus or the lawn tractor, everything got steamed first). After awhile, the mechanics became just as insistant on pre-cleaning.

I spoke to the Service Manager at the Stealership I work for and he said they would call the customer and charge $10 to powerwash what was needed. I was told in his 13 years as manager less than 5 Jeeps were charged for cleanup.

On the other issue they can not cancel the wrty unless in his words " you were a jack stupid and really f@#ked up something".

I don't know if anyone has done this before but if you park your Jeep in the yard and put a sprinkler under it the mud will fall off in clumps.
