This might be a tough one unless you really know kj's. My kj wasn't equipped with cruise control. I want to know if jeeps are prewired for cruise or not and if it is do I need to just replace the steering wheel and get a cc module. Any help on the subject would be hugely appreciated.

I think someone tried to add it and deemed it way too costly.

It depends on what year your Jeep is. Most only needed to change the clockspring, add the cruise button, and add the CC module plus a couple other small things. Some years did not come with a preinstalled part (name escapes me right now) under the hood needed to make everything work.

This is what dealership told me once when I wanted to install a cruise control - not aftermarket install - but factory - or under factory specs.
If the jeep is pre-wired then It can be done - if it is not prewired then It cannot

I have a 2006 w/out CC and they(my dealer) quoted me a price of $232 and change to install WITH installation cost included. I am finding that hard to believe so I'm asking them to put it in writing so when I find time to get it I have the price they quoted me.

what do you have to look for?
I do not know, but my dealer took one simple look on the DRIVERS side and said... no you are not pre-wired

I have an '03 sport w/o cruise and have been told I'm not wired by the dealer. They also told me Jeep used to make a kit for people like me, but no more  .

It took a little doing, but I found a speedo shop with a knowledgeable staff (surprise!) who said all I need is a universal kit with a couple "special" adaptors. They want $450.00 though, but they're the only ones who want to take on the project... Captive audience. Whatayagonnado?

P.S. $232.00 sounds like a steal!!! Definately get it in wrighting.

jparts carries three speed control kits, one for the 2.4L (04-05), one for the 3.7 (02-05) and one for the '06 3.7L. Not much info on their site, but do those also require the vehicle to be prewired in order to work?

with the kit that you found for 450$ was it using an aftermarket controller because i want to use the steering wheel controls. I really would like a factory look on the inside ya know?

This is me.

Just to clairify, it'll be $450 out the door (kit, extra parts & install).

The kit I'm getting is universal i.e. probably won't look that great. I really don't care though, as long as it works well. I'll be driving from S.D. to D.C. in a month so pragmatism takes prededence. Don't think I have a choice anyway... I could be wrong, but unless you're prewired you're probably in the same boat too

I finally got my universal kit installed today. Total cost was $445 and change. Sounds kinda steep I know, but I'm pretty sure this was my only option especially considering that the place where I got it done was the only one who would even toucdh it... plus they had done a KJ like mine (w/o pre-wired) a few week prior. Kit alone was $280+ (extra $30 part was needed).

The good part: It works great!!! Really smooth engagement and acceleration. Also, the joystick, conspicuous as it is, is fully adjustable and surprisingly ergonomic... Now all I need is a sunroof!
