I waiting for my CRD to throw the next code for the egr. I have had it fixed three times already and our lemon law in FL is after the third time the dealer has one more attempt to fix it. I love the CRD so I hate to do it, but I have until May of 07 to do something before the 24 month period is up. Maybe I can get them to extend my warranty to 100,000 miles or more.

I feel your pain. I'm going round and round about the tranny. I dread the thought of the EGR problem.

I have had the tranny shudder that everyone else has had. I can live with that, but the thought of spending $500.00 plus every 8,000 miles or so isn't nice.

I've had a total of 3 EGR valves on my '05 CRD since I bought it new in April '05. Now I'm working on #4. The dealership is playing phone tag with STAR, & getting what I call the "Runaround Sue". Both the Sevice Mgr & Assistant Service Mgr have been trying to help me get my situation sorted out. I have to give them credit for that. It seeems that it's in the hands of the powers that be at STAR. Georgia has a Lemon Law too, but I don't know how many times the same problem has to be fixed before it qualifies. I'm not an unreasonable person, I just want the vehicle I dropped about 27k for to be in good working order. Is that really to much to ask for?

Gregg,
You may want to google search the Lemon law for Georga. I downloaded Ohio's that way. After talking it over with the lawyer found consumer rights are a bit stronger than the printed law, atleast in Ohio. His last case happened to be against DC over a Dodge Ram Cummins. His customer had regular repeated visits with many defects (seldom the same problem) over 12 months and over 30K miles. DC fought this because it was outside the 12 month/18K mile limit and no single defect was repeated 3 times. DC lost, gave him a new truck and had to pay the legal bills. Tells me the chronic EGR failures, oil fouled CAC, and the stack of TSB's related to the transmission may be all it takes to win.

Detail: guys, those who've had more than one EGR replaced, take note.

There are, it seems, TWO parts that throw EGR codes. One is the actual EGR, the other is on the intake side, and is also know as an anti-shudder valve. The part numbers are 5142799AA and 516555AB.

On my CRD, the EGR was replaced twice, both times the CEL came on within a couple hundred miles, before the anti-shudder valve was replaced, and THAT seems to have done it. My theory is that the anti-shudder valve causes the same codes, but for some reason isn't the part that is replaced, sometimes in error.

The The EGR and Flow Control Valve (aka anti-shudder valve) are on same side of the engine and bolt together. They don't throw same code but one is probably mistaken for the other by non diesel experienced tech. The orginal deffination for the FCV code was for a throttle body failure and may have also led to some confussion.

When my FCV went bad the parts dept ordered a EGR instead of EGR FCV as requested by tech (a new kid in parts with a shacky rep that may be looking for new job before long), and I ended up waiting an extra two weeks. The tech tested the repair without even doing the install. He unplugged the FCV cleared the code and plugged in the new FCV (there was enough of the wiring harness to allow for the test) and no CEL, then he replugged the harness back into the old FCV still mounted on engine and it threw a CEL as soon as key was turned on.

I have had 2 Egr valves replaced along with the transmission. The last EGR was replaced 2000 miles ago and it has gone bad again. The dealer will not have the parts till next week. I called DC and they did not have a F***ing clue. The lemon law in Maryland apply's to vehicles with under 24K mine has 27K. I like my CRD but, cant live with all of the problems.

I have to give the service folks an A+ on working to try to get the problem resolved, but my patience with DC is wearing thin. In my opinion they lack the proper motivation to deal with all of the CRD's EGR related troubles.

I got some good news from the ASM this morning. He finally got the diesel tech on the blower & he said to have me get the Liberty in as soon as I can & the service tech needed to check out 3 or 4 things to see how they need to procede. :D The tech also mentioned that "some oil coming from the CCV is normal, especially if the Jeep is idling". :?: :?:

I'll leave drop the Jeep off Monday after work, so they can get on it Tuesday morning. I told them to put me into another CRD til mine was ready. The ASM teased me & said that the "loaner" was a Yugo.

I ought to know something (I hope any way) either Tuesday or Wednesday on what the problem is this time.

Not sure about the new truck in Ohio, that's rather stiff. In a lemon law case, or even in Chrysler's own arbitration board, they will deduct so much $$ per mileage on the vehicle when you first made your official complaint, not from when the problems started necessarily. THis is to deduct for the fact that you must have gotten some usage out of the vehicle, or else the mileage would not be there. Sometimes this deducted amount can me you still owe money on the vehicle which will have to be paid in order for the to take it back. I don't think any lemon law is designed to totally replace a vehicle and call everything square financially.

I live in Delaware and got 100% back with 14,000 miles of use on a 2005 Dodge Magnum RT. Drove it 16 months and got $1,600 rufund because the Liberty I replaced it with cost less.

In some states this is true, not in Ohio. Under Ohio law, the consumer is entitled to original invioce + taxes paid + any modification done + interest + legal fees. It also specifically prohibits deduction for mileage. The only stated limitation is the 12mo/18K mile timeframe to file. Ironically it was DC that challenged this law through the Appeals Court and to the Ohio Supreme Court. It was literally thrown out of the Supreme Court and DC ended up paying over $80K in legal fees over replacing a $25K vehicle. They usually settle out of court now.

How The Florida Lemon Law Works
The Lemon Law covers defects or conditions that substantially impair the use, value or safety of the new or demonstrator vehicle (these are called "nonconformities"). These defects must be first reported to the manufacturer or it authorized service agent (usually, this is the dealer) during the "Lemon Law Rights Period," which is the first 24 months after the date of delivery of the motor vehicle to the consumer.

If the vehicle has been back to the service agent for repair of the same recurring problem at least three times, the consumer gives written notification by certified, registered or express mail, to the manufacturer (not the dealer) to afford a final opportunity to repair the vehicle.
