Guys,
There is a $25 rebate on Mopar accessory purchases of $200 or more thru September. Here is a website that has the form http://site.justforjeeps.com/rebate.pdf

It is good no matter which Jeep dealer you buy from (local or on line) :D

The turn around time from DC was impressive. I had my "free" money check in less than a month. God I love America!

It sure was a nice help with my skid plates purchase. By the way if you order skid plates do not order the front suspension plate. It is already on the CRD from the factory although the parts people swear it is not. It's the one under the wishbone and it has sound insulation on the top side of it.

Go buy something nice for your toy - the $25 helps make the wife agree that we need it

I heard that the plate that comes with the CRD is not as thick as the true offroad skid...better check...

Correct .. I replaced mine ( when I got the whole set) .. the OEM one on the CRD is not as thick.

Does the offroad skid have the big oval shaped hole in it like the stock CRD plate?

Yes, same exact pattern. Just the skid shield is approx 1/16" steel and is required to hold up the plastic splash shield and insulation that is unique to the CRD. The actual skid plate is 3/16" steel.

*** corrected thickness in post ***

O.K. next question. What does the hole do? On my off road excursions thus far it seemed like a handy way to take soil samples and carry them around. No other apparent purpose I can see.

On the non-CRD Liberties you can access the drain hole, and presummably the fill plug, but with our splash shields, it's worthless. I call it the mud-induction hole(MIH).

Some day I'm going to replace it with the real MOPAR skid, and bolt on a cover piece of steel over the MIH.

Having had my front skid off twice now along with seeing one othe removed, and personally installed the OEM skids for tranny & transfer case, they are all the same gage on my '05 and I used the floor jack to lift them and start bolts, makes it less painful on the arthritis. My floor jack has often be my third arm. Mine does have a drain hole like it would for gasser.

By the way there is no skid plate for the Jeep made that is 3/8" thick, that would make a front skid about weight about 60 to 75 lbs alone. I haven't put the micrometer to the plates for exact measure, but just guessing I would say 3/16" to 1/4 inch is about the max.

Yep. Typo on my part - 3/16" for the real skid, much less for the factory shield.

Some CRDs came with the "Skid Plate Group" and as such, already have the 3/16" front suspension skid.

I've had them side by side, shield vs. skid, and there is a large difference in weight and thickness. However, I have no dbout, that there were changes during production of the Liberties, or shortages of parts, in which some have gotten the real skid vs. the thinner shield....
