Decided that I would do some "overseas" research on the Vm Motori R 428 DOHC and see what I could find. It was built off the 2.5L to get 10% more torque. In Euro Trim it puts out 130kw/410Nm(302 ft/#s)...US Trim is 120kw/400Nm(295 ft/#s)...anyway...

There is a company called Tuningbox that makes plug ins for many of the diesels overseas. They have a CR (Common Rail) series for the Jeep Cherokee/Liberty. The figures they give are 141kw(192hp)/480Nm(354 ft/#s)...the baseline they tested was 120kw/400Nm. The plug changes the duration and amount of fuel delivered. It DOES NOT increase fuel pressure (not a safe/economical a method).

I emailed them tonight to see how we could get one in the states to test...fingers crossed.

I would be in on this, used European Wett chip for my TDI, ran it 250,000
without any issues, if done right, no reason not to chip it, just need a
company that has done it for some time with good results.

The VM Motori website can give you all the specs on how the mechanical build was made. which by all counts in your post you have discovered.
However, the controller firmware in the ECU designed for the North American market vs. the European market are two distinct animals. It is ill advised to use a European Chipper or programmer on North American firmware.

The Diesel Power CR module sold by Upscale Automotive is made in Germany, does exactly what you describe (changes duration of pulse, not pressure) and has recently been given E-1 certification (Europe-1) which certifies that the product does not harm any other component on the vehicle. No affiliation, etc., blah blah...

If we are talking just PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), then yes using a Euro vendor or North American vendor is not an issue.

I believe that it is the same module under a different name...it is TUV certified, ect, ect ,ect. They are not cheap...about $539.00 but they take 15 minutes to "plug and play".

I'm Still waiting to hear what TS Performance can offer us here. If you can when you contact the overseas vendor, see if they can control the EGR system and close it off completely through the ECM. If we can eliminate the EGR system that is great!

Original Tuningbox is really fisrt in Diesel Tuning in Europ.
We build 2 different boxes for this model,

second model ( the most popular in europe), change injection time, injection volume and a litle bit the injection pressure ( but always in tolernace of the manufacturer), your price for this model is 255 euro, sale price 495 euro

All our boxes are ready to fit, juts plug and drive
We so have a lot of request from USA this year,

commentaire: Many years of Auto-X and Road Racing (Mazda Rotary and Miata-Sprint, 12 Hr and 24 Hr). Founder of L.O.S.T. - Liberty Owners Special Team _ for the Jeep Liberty/Cherokee. www.lostkjs.com and then check out our forum. We have a big following and I was wondering about your CR Series Tuningbox for the 2.8L CRD(VM Motori R 428 DOHC).

Would like to try to market the unit specifically for the Jeep Liberty/Cherokee to see how it does in the States. If you go to the Forum you will see a section for CRD only. There is a heap of interest for easy to "install and remove" units that will increase kw/hp/Nm/Torque without increasing the fuel pressure. I am located in San Antonio, Texas but we have members everywhere...including Europe and Australia. Would like to know how to get one unit to test and report on to the L.O.S.T. Group and then market...Thanx, Wally

I ran a Tuning box reprogrammer in my Jetta TDI and it was flawless for about 74k when I sold the car. Not as fast as a chip but brought it up from 90-115hp and 150-200ftlbs of torque which dropped me over a second in the 1/4 mile.

Have you heard any other Info on the programmer yet?

Can they reprogram the ECM to stop the EGR valve from onening? and stop the codes frome being thrown?
