Did anyone out there special order your kj? What was the process like? I tell myself "next time I will special order", yet I always end up getting something in dealer stock (or have them do a dealer trade). I guess I am a tad impulsive  , but who could resist a dark khaki kj just begging to come home with you?? So... maybe next time I will special order. What experience (positive or negative) did you have special ordering? Were there any "surprises" along the way?

I did a SO on my 06 Renny. The only down side was waiting for it. I got exactly what I wanted, and didn't have to pay for sat. radio or a trip computer. This is the 2nd SO vehicle from the DC family, and the times I didn't do it I always wish that I had. Just make sure you go over all the options on their computer, and have someone explain the option if you aren't sure what it is or how it would help...

I did an SO as well.... I pretty much had to since around here manual tranny KJs are akin to Wooly Mammoths in the wild...

It was great though because I had been to the Jeep website and went through their "Build & Price" section about a bajillion times so I knew exactly what I wanted...

Ditto on the waiting though... I would have given almost anything to have been able to drive my KJ off the lot that day... *sigh*
About 6 weeks later my wife and I were two happy clams at low tide... :P

When they tell you there is an outside chance it could be there in 3 weeks just smile and nod and set your sights on 6 weeks...

I special ordered to get a 6 speed, sunroof, heated leather, and ABS. 6-speed 6cyl wasn't available on any dealer lots, and ABS was an option that almost no KJs are ordered with. And who orders a renegade with heated leather, sunroof, and the luxury package?

The process was easy, I just told them which packages I wanted and signed the paperwork. 2 months later my KJ arrived!

I would suggest getting to intimately know the option package availability before ordering, because the dealer WILL NOT know those details. My dealer made me a photocopy of the blue book of options so I could peruse it to see what each package was, what it included, and what the cost was. It was also good to see which packages blocked other packages, which ones included others, etc. M/H means "must have" which took me awhile to figure out. Heated leather "M/H" "remove lightbar". Sad but true.

PS - shadow, I love the "Wolly Mammoth in the Wild" description, I'll have to use that!

Do Not special order in December as the plant closes for two weeks during Dec. Unfortunately my dealer didn't know that and misquoted my delivery time then gave me the run around about it. I ordered on Dec. 2 and took delivery on Feb. 19th.

aha! that explains my 2 month wait, then. I ordered + received right around the same time.

As Se7enLC mentioned they have the Must Have rules... Who comes up with this crap?!?!

From what I recall manual transmission meant the luxury group didn't come with heated seats... although that could have been another make... I know the Toyota Camry only had standard in one of the five Camry models... and if you chose standard the Luxury pkg didn't have heated seats... WTF?!?!

Or I wanted the U-Connect.... Well only if you get the heated side mirrors?!?!? What do they have in common other than sucking every nickel they can out of you! *sigh*

Or the privacy cover... yeah i thought i wanted one... only if you buy the security group... ?!?! (I know you can get it as an accessory later but come on...)

Oh well... I have my 06 Renny - special ordered for manual tranny and sunroof... and I love it! gas guzzling and all... :D :D

Reading the above posts and I wondered, if you special order, do you then have to pay full MSRP as opposed to a negotiated deal on an in stock Liberty?

No, you can still wheel and deal with the stealership on the price you want to pay. I went into the dealer and Told them I would pay them $100 over invoice for the Jeep I wanted and all they had to do was place the order for me and take delivery. The still made the MFG hold back which was another couple hundred $$ and they didn't have the vehicle sitting on their lot losing money and taking up space.

I ordered my 06 CRD over the internet. I got exactly the rig I wanted and took delivery at a Dealer in Seattle that handles the special orders.

Mine came in at $25850 and the sticker in the glove box had the price at $32950.

Took about 6 weeks. The Dealer gave me a full tank to boot.

I will not buy another vehicle right off the lot unless it is exactly what I want. I SO both my Libby and my ram 2500 on the same day. Took about 3 weeks for the libby and about 6 for the truck. Plus I like the window sticker saying that the vehicle was built for me. Personally I think that special ordering is the only way to go.

Care to line item the savings so we can see how you got $7,100 off of MSRP??? Maybe a source to order through?

Carmax has three Jeep outlets (I think L.A., Atlanta, Orlando) and you can special order anything you want and still get the exact same Carmax price as if it were sitting on the lot. Not a bad deal.

If I decided to go new I would have done that since it is near impossible to find a manual trans six cyl out there anywhere.

I don't have a scanner and don't know the individual savings but I will take a picture of the sticker and post it. I'm very happy with the dealer. The only problem is he is 40 miles away through town so I probably won't be going back unless it is to buy something else.

Too bad you couldn't trick them for a 6-speed with the CRD, while they still had them of course. Oh well, I'll just hope for the Gladiator to come to production.

Sometimes you can get a BETTER deal by haggling with the salesman over a special order vehicle than you can over one sitting on the lot. The dealership has already invested time and money in the one sitting on the lot. The S.O. is in and out in one day.

And welcome to the forum KnightsofNi! I love your screen name. I suddenly feel like chopping down the largest tree in the forest with.....A HERRING!

Thankyou Dog Party, the Shrubbery sounds a little easier!!
I didn't special order but the dealer had the perfect Jeep right on the lot!
06 CRD, Light Kakhi (hides dirt like nothing else) Tow package, security package and sunroof.
I joined this forum to learn as much as I can about this great vehicle.
I am loving this forum so far and hope to keep learning.

Nice find on the trcuk! You're in good company with that engine/color combo. There are a couple Light Khaki CRDs here on the forum. And there isn't a better place to learn about Jeeping and the CRD than LOST. Did you get a Limited or a Sport?

Don't forget to check out I'm S.O. L.O.S.T. in Southern Ontario section of the forum!
