Hello to everyone, im new to the forum and have been looking at buying a KJ for the last few weeks. The only thing holding me back it the fact that i do a lot of driving, about 150-200 km a day.

Im leaning towards the CRD right now, but i thought i would ask if anyone has looked into a propane conversion.

Propane where i live, is about half the price of petrol, so it would be much less expencive to run, plus you can switch between the petrol and propane when needed.

Paul

I have yet to hear of anyone doing this. Maybe you could try the CRD section?

Not 100% shure on this, but I dought it can be done. No place to put the propane tank. The only place would be if you removed the OEM gas tank.

I'm pretty sure the CRD wouldn't do well on Propane. They rattle like crap with Gasoline.

I would say you could get a conversion done. I wonder if it would be legal to put the propane tank on the roof rack? I see some trucks running around with the tank up high like that. If someone does it let us all know.

Propane injection into a Diesel is done to gain impressive amounts of power...about 3 parts diesel to 1 part propane.

Would the cost per mile be any less? I know propane is cheaper, but don't you get less power and less gas mileage. Let us know. Id be interested in how it turns out.

to my understanding, a gallon of propane is equal to 9/10 of a gallon of petrol as far as fuel economy goes. Aparently powerloss is minimal, most websites clame a max power loss of only 7%.

Running a car on propane would be all new to me so i only know what i've read.

All in all, i still think i'll end up with the CRD, just wanted to know if anyone had considered this alternative fuel method.
