$420-450 from online dealers like Summitracing.com Not cheap but it looks like a nice system. I wish Flowmaster made a complete system. The one on my Blazer is really nice.

Hummm, I bought my FlowMaster 40 muffler installed for $98 and there is no need for me to crawl under the Jeep ocassionally to see where all my money went. I know where the $310 went, fuel.

Just to clarify...all the Flowmaster 40's, 50's ect have chambers. For a turbo exhaust this might not be the best solution. To make more horsepower with a Turbo, it is usually better to keep the exhaust going straight instead of thru chambers...

Flowmaster does make a Hushpower II that looks like a glasspack and is very compact. It does not have the "packing material" that is in a standard glasspack. It also comes in Stainless Steel and is recommended for offroad Jeeps to boot.

From a background of racing turbos...the less changing of direction of the exhaust gases on a turbo exhaust the better. Also keeping the exhaust gases hot increases scavenging. The HushMasterII also has a ceramic blanket that keeps the heat in.

I think the straight thru mufflers will give the CRD the most benefit...IMHO

Very true about the straight through, but the FlowMaster does not have the chambers in the since most muflers do, they just have V shaped wedges inside with the point of the V pointed upstream toward the engine and allows good spool up and lots less restriction the OEM muffler. That said if the CRD had been my vehicle I would have done a straight pipe and no muffler of any kind or at most somethine like a straight through glass pack for better performance with quiter exhuast then a straight pipe. However since it is the wife's car and she didn't want somethiog that was loud or droned like my '00 NB didesel did with straight pipe.

The Flowmaster 40 is considered a two chamber muffler...the Delta Series has extra v-shaped (hence delta name) pieces to diffuse/change the sound even more, but they are also "chamber" style mufflers. The exhaust has to navigate around the wedges inside the muffler to cancel the high pitched sound...I am not saying it does not flow better than the stock muffler just that the exhaust has to change direction more than a straight thru muffler...

I really think I will try to use a Borla Turbo Muffler...also Dynomax and MagnaFlow straight thru designs would probably boost turbo response...The more I look at the HushPowerII, the less I like all the things going on inside the muffler...

I called Flowmaster 2 days ago about the Hushpower II and diesel. The guy said no way, don't do it. He may have misunderstood me because I said I didn't care about sound level. He was pretty blunt about not using it on a diesel. His recommendation was the standard 40. He wouldn't comment on flow rates or which muffler flowed best.

Oldnavy- I put a complete Flowmaster on my Chevy. It bolted right up and works great. No compromises, mandrel bent front to back. Patching in a muffler is ok but having done a complete bolt in system before, I think it is worth the price.

Some thoughts on the systems I've looked at.
Gibson- Looks nice but the muffler is 8" diameter, stock muffler is 5" high. It's going to hang down too low.
Dynomax- Cheap to buy, but cheap materials also. Straight through glasspack. They claim the highest flowing muffler. At summitracing.com, they show a picture of a system with the standard muffler(cheap) but the part number is for a system with a welded muffler(like Flowmaster). I may have to investigate further. part#19392 $230
Flowmaster- Don't make anything for the Liberty. Rusty's Offroad makes a system using the Flowmaster though. $250.
Borla- Way out of my price range.

Just my 2 cents... I bought the MagnaFlow cat-back system #15870. It is a free-flowing straight-thru design using a perferated tube in a packed stainless muffler. You can see right through the muffler end to end and it is an exact fit.

I have the same system on my CRD as of January or so this year.

I'd loved to have had a recorder going when I called the Magnaflow Tech Line to let them know the #15870 will fit on the CRD's.

I paid $300 for my Magnaflow #15870 from a very large exhaust warehouse in Lexington.....the salesman allowed me to purchase it with the option to return it if it didn't pass the "loose fit" test first. He cut me a little better deal as it was for personal use and not for re-sale (I work at an S&S Tire in Lexington and we buy lots of exhaust components from this company).

I now have the Magnaflow #15870 on the 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4 CRD, the Magnaflow #15989 on my 2003 Dodge RAM 2500 Crew Cab 4x4 w/Cummins Turbo Diesel, and just recently added the Magnaflow #15801 on my 2004 Dodge Neon SXT (daily driver).

Yep.....I like my Magnaflow products.
