I agree with that. I'll prolly fix it up and sell it to get a different jeep. My patience for 3 more inches has pretty much run out, and I don't want to go through this again.

I'm working on getting a diff and will prolly pop my mechanical cherry on this one!

At least I know I'm not the only one feeling this way.

You can call Chrysler directly and file a complaint about the dealership, definately note that they wouldn't provide a survey. You should find a number in your owners manual or warranty manual. I feel for ya, I've been through that sh.. with a VW dealer already. I ended up seeing a service manager fired over bad treatment. Dealerships make no money on warranty work so they don't want it. If you aren't the type of customer that trades up at least every two years then screw you! Good luck.

It is not like this happens all the time...it is a pretty rare occurance and DC would be better served to service it with a smile and keep a loyal customer. They could even work out some kinda deal...we supply the part for free and you pay the labor. Then you could get the part and choose to have them install or install it yourself. I mean all they have to supply you is the aluminum case...that can't be that much and would have probably made you semi-happy.

Funny thing is your factory skid plate bent and they did not choose to replace it under warranty. It is a skid plate...it bent...therefore it is defective.

On another note...fix it...keep it...buy a used older Jeep to run the BIG TRAILS. Nothing wrong with a offroad only Jeep!

KJBOL: Ah, so it was a different dealer. I see. I'll try and call them and see what they say.

Darby: If I could get rid of this thing right now, I'd do so in a heartbeat. It's clear that the KJ isn't taken seriously by all but a handful of manufacturers, and everything is way too overpriced due to the limited saturation of lifted vehicles/mods that are on the market.

The KJ truly is a mall cruiser.

Flame on!

Its said to see someone that has an awsome libby fall away.

Happened enough to cause a group buy on a collar. Happened enough to make me always think about it when I'm on the trails and my front wheels start spinning. DCX doesnt really care about us as wheelers, they want to move new vehicles. The new vehicles arent even designed with true off-roading mind-just the perception of. Even a Wrangler Rubicon needs some building post purchase. The aftermarkets come where there is a market. The handful of us here do not constitute a market.

I still love my KJ and will keep building it. I just dont count on DCX for support. My next vehicle will be a TJ, not new, used and ready for building. You think DCX cares about me? Still loyal but not very important to them now, am I?

I agree, it's happened too much. When I first started doing my research into modding the KJ, broken front differentials and the collar were one of the first things I discovered. It's quite possible that the longer pinion in the D30A is the culprit, being longer it is more prone to flex and stress the case. I'd like to see a fix that didn't require spending $10,000 on a SFA conversion. Maybe the steel diff out of a Grand is the way to go, I don't know.

"Trail Rated" is a fallacy.

yeah were screwed. a TJ rear d35 (weaker design) can easily be upgrade to a d40 for less than 2k or on a tight budget probably even 1k. Us, what option do we have? Lucky to get a d30a diff from a junked KJ and install it ourselfs for under $1000. Other options include a dealer rip off at 3-5k, which dosen't 'fix' the problem, just buy more time. Or a SFA conversion for 10k.

sorry to be so negative.

Actually, not true. No dlr is going to work for free, warranty repairs or not. Worked at several dlrships and at least in the past, the manufacturer paid the dlr for time for warranty work. The time was usually paid at the same rate as the csr was charged providing the dlr had applied for and been approved for that rate. The only thing the dlr loses is the profit they would make on the price of the hard parts. The major pain was that the replaced parts usually had to be kept for a certain amt of time (like 90 days) in case the manufacturer wanted them back, either to study the failure or check to see that the dlr was actually replacing the parts he claimed he was and not scamming the warranty reimbursement system. I've seen dlrships closed for submitting fradulent warranty claims for reimbursement.

Oils, lubes, even cleaning supplies, like contact cleaner, brake clean, etc. used (within limits) were paid back to the dlr along with all labor charges (billed at the factory rate - if the factory repair man. says 4hrs, that's what the dlr is paid for). Oils & lubes were often paid at the retail rate per quart while the dlr was using considerably cheaper drum oil. Often the factory labor hrs were short of what it actually took to do the job so the dlr lost out on some hrs but there were also plenty of jobs where the factory paid more hrs then the repair actually took.

When I worked at a Yamaha M/C dlrship, we were one of the few that would actually be recommended by Yamaha to do warranty work that other dlrs balked at because since I was really up on entering all the proper reimbursement codes on the (just starting out) online system, we would get reimbursed very quickly and were happy for the referals of business we otherwise wouldn't have seen. We actually turned a tidy labor profit because our service dept was usually ahead of the posted labor hours per job. Plus, since the csrs had had problems at other dlrships they were just happy to get thier bike fixed under warranty.

Sorry to go on so long but it just kinda irks me when I hear dlrs say "I don't wanna do warranty work because I lose out."
