Will nerf bars/running boards protect like rock rails would? I like the look of nerf bars but don't know if they would hold up. I don't plan on rock crawling or anything too hard core. Thanks.

There are many reasons to put on rock rails over nerf bars. Longevity and it gives you a jack point down the side of the rig if you need to put something under your wheels to keep going.

No. Have you looked at the skink sliders with the step thing? They seem purty cool.

If you plan to go offroad then rock rails, if you don't ever plan to take if offroad then get the nerf bars. The nerf bars take up lots of ground clearance and will scrape and bend with a little offroad abuse.

What bighause said. Only good for on-road. Too risky for off-roading.

I've removed my Graphite coated Tubular rails (bought at the dealership) from my Black KJ. I may be selling them shortly if your interested. Looking to buy into rock rails (non Mopar) since I have been taking the Jeep to off-road areas latley.

I also saw a guy at Camp Jeep 2004 that had side steps on his lib. He was in the same trail ride that I went through and the only obstacle was a small rocky section that you needed to clear some big rocks. We all made it through, stock, but at the end I saw his Jeep...

Side step was bent upwards and he couldn't open the door. Crappy!!
