Do you have any good transmission shops in your area that can help you with this problem?
Where are you located, your signature does not say.

 I have a good spare TCM that you could try if your interested.

Your transmission is likely stuck in limp mode, and likely not utilizing 1st gear either. The P0605 code unfortunately is one that I am familar with, others have had it as well and a new PCM is likely needed. I don't know why this has happened, but yours makes at least the 6th one I am aware of.

Are you calling the ECM the a PCM or are you talking about the TCM?
PCM is normally a gasser term.
What concerns me is if his problem is in his TCM or a problem with the solenoid pack inside the transmission or a wiring issue.
I don't think the ECM is involved.

Lack of fluid pressure will affect the shifting and lockup performance...

First I've heard of this. So, even if trans is shifting fine should folks over-fill 1-2 quarts?

Electrical gremlins and auto tranny problems are no fun. Two things I don't understand very well.

I was wondering too if I had overfilled the transmission. Is the PO700 code set by the pcm? Is the pcm another name for the ecm? In researching I get references to the pcm and ecu and I assumed it was the same case on the drivers fender. I was thinking too that I hadn’t traced the ground from the battery terminal to see the end connection. That I will do. Also I wanted to get the scanner that would read tcm codes to verify a bad tcm. You can’t have too many tools.

Only very high end scanners like the DRBIII or SnapOn Verus or specialized transmission scanners will talk to the TCM.

To hopefully enlighten,
On many diesel powered vehicles,
It has an ECM (Electronic/Engine Control Module) mounted on the left drivers side fender.
It has a TCM (Transmission Control Module) mounted on right passenger side fender.
It has a BCM (Body Control Module) mounted to the rear of the fuse panel up under the left drivers side dash.

Many gas powered vehicles have a single PCM (Powertrain Control Module) that controls both engine and transmission functions combined.

No. I've worked on enough of these that I should know what I'm talking about. This was a problem with autocorrect that I didn't catch.

The TCM Transmission Control Module - likely will need to be replaced.

If it was a wiring issue the vehicle would not start b/c the solenoid pack contains the interlock, if the solenoid pack is not connected, dead stick. No starter, no turn. Nothing. Just dead.
The solenoids in limp mode are still able to allow shifting manually into reverse, and give you 2nd gear and 3rd gear, NO OD and no lockup.

Terminology is everything!
I figured you were talking about the TCM, just wanted to make sure so as not to confuse readers.
I have offered him a TCM if he wants it, I have a spare. :D

Just got back from Magic City Transmission a father/son transmission only shop. Confirmed the tcm is toast. Will get a replacement from WWDiesel.

Great! Relatively speaking. Much better to have a problem and find the cause than to hunt for eternity for an electrical short etc. Hope that fixes it!

Tcm from WWDiesel came in the mail today. Installed and test drove about 40 miles. Transmission shifts like it’s supposed to except getting shudder at 3 to 4 up shift. New torque converter, transmission pump is planned. Can old tcm be repaired and flashed to lockup converter at low rpm to utilize torque from engine?

That's very good news, glad my TCM fixed most of your problems.
Who did you find to reflash your TCM to lower TC lockups. I am sure many on LOST would love to know...

Torque converter would shudder on 4 to 3 downshift before old tcm failed. Now with the used replacement tcm the torque converter shudders at 3 to 4 upshift. My question in the previous post is GDE the only company that did or does tcm reprogramming. Also is there a company that can repair a CRD Liberty tcm. I’m thinking I may need to start a new thread since this one started as a head gasket replacement and now I need to research transmission upgrades.

I don't know of any company that will reprogram the TCM. I wish we could still get the Eco tom tune from GDE etc and they are good for environment not bad they put engine in most efficient mode for the individuals use.

Yes, probably a good idea to start a new thread if you want, but there are many older threads/with posts which has discussed torque converter and transmission and TCM issues. Plenty of reading if you do a search on LOST!

The shudder on upshift is caused by worn and weak lockup clutches in the torque converter which causes clutch slippage when engine torque overcomes the holding force of the clutches, it is not caused by the TCM. The TCM merely controls when to shift and when to lockup the torque converter.
To stop TC shudder, you will need to upgrade to a better torque converter like the SunCoast or Florida Torque Converter along with replacing the front pump assembly and adding a TransGo Kit.

The GDE Eco TCM tune is great for everyday drivers but you must have a good HD torque converter that can handle the additional torque at lower engine RPM's.
It would be very nice to find a resource for TCM reprogramming for those wanting it.

What ***MIGHT*** be happening is that you have low line pressure and that is affecting the shifting OR since it is in the same shift as before, it could be a problem in the valve body tha the piston bore is worn out and the pressure is being dumped to the pan. Changing the valve body and solenoid pack could resolve this for less work than dropping the entire transmission, BUT if you do take the transmission down:

Torque converter from Florida Torque Converters - they have a "low stall" converter that is much better for the CRD, there may be benefits of increased vane angle (more aggressive energy transfer) on the billet version, ask them for details as I'm a bit fuzzy on that. But their low stall converter is GREAT.

While you have the transmission down, UPGRADE THE FRONT PUMP with the unit from IDparts which comes with the new style cover - but BEFORE YOU INSTALL IT get the Sonnax kit and put in the line pressure spring and resistors, this will increase the holding and shifting power entirely. A transmission is a hydraulic machine, EVERYTHING depends on that pressure.
