How safe is the stage 4 Diy tunes? Do they smoke at all? I’m at stage 2 and it’s fine but it’s not that peppy actually.

First off, you have to have a really good strong torque converter to handle the additional HP & torque.
As to smoke, I have the Stage IV Hot tune and have ran it continuously since 2014 (~6 years now), the only time I ever see any smoke is when I let all the way off the go pedal to slow down for a short period and then quickly get right back into the go pedal. I will see a small puff of black smoke momentary.
Fuel mileage, does pretty good out on the road around 30 or better; around town mileage driving low 20's, but I like to use it's power and I did not build it for the fuel mileage.
Some of the lesser tunes will probably give you better fuel mileage, but less power. :D

In my experience the hotter the tune the better the Mpg, as long as the operator stays consistent in their use of skinny pedal.
I have the suncoast so I should be good there, however it still sometimes likes to shudder a little.

Yes, but staying off the GO pedal is hard to do! :ROTFL:
Your SunCoast should never shudder, something else is not right.
I have pulled trailers loaded with 4k in 5th gear TC locked up (overdrive) and have not been able to make it slip or shudder going up some pretty good hills.
Did you replace the front pump and install TransGo kit?

Here’s my take.

I really liked the 811 stage 2 tune.
More boost and the power comes on quickly from 1800 rpm on up.
But it put my stock torque converter through shuddering hell.

The 811 stage 4 definitely has power but slightly less boost.
Power comes in more softly, then “all in” at about 2200 rpm.
It’s a lot easier on my torque converter and easier to manage.

I’ve ran the GDE-Eco, stage 2, and stage 4.
None of them made any improvements to my MPG.

I did not replace the front pump. After trying to buy one from several vendors who claimed it was “in stock” or “available” only to hang me out to dry for weeks or months, I gave up. I did install the updates into the pump with the Transgo kit.
It’s only been about 200mi with the updates and suncoast, so it’s possible that the system is still learning and settling down, but there are odd occurrences in shifting when I’m trying to drive aggressively. Just poking around town it’s fine. It’s not really a shudder like I had before the TC, but it does sort of shimmy and moan a little, and some other odd behaviors that were not present before the shift kit and TC.

Mine never shudder when pulling a trailer (2000lbs) in the Rockies ! But it will with no trailer.

I have the weak TC and the Ecotune !

Do you monitor EGT when towing? That’s my main concern with the hot tunes. I do have egt gauge so I can monitor it. I put the sensor in the header right before turbo collector.

Had a bit of shudder today coming out of first gear I think when I romped on it a little bit.

No I don't have a gauge, nor a hot tune, it's the eco tune and I also have no muffler !

I don't think my EGT is a problem !

Not sure it will help the situation but if you haven't you might overfill your trans fluid a quart and observe any results. Shouldn't help flutter but maybe shift a little different.
