2006 Jeep Liberty CRD. 545RFE transmission with Suncoast TC, Transgo shift kit.

Cliff Notes:
- No reverse
- no park
- does not engine brake and rolling/chainy/almost grinding noise while coasting
- same noise in park and reverse, and goes away after a few seconds in park
- sometimes shifts hard
- no 0700 ECU code
- no new metal dust on transmission oil pan magnet.

Long Story:
- When I let off throttle from any speed, a light rolling grinding sounds from from the transmission until I come to a stop.
- If I keep load on the engine while breaking, the rpms fall road speed and the transmission downshift through the gears as expected with no grinding. The shifts are a bit rough and it's almost as if the tq converter is still locked up.
- One time after a stop, the engine was bogged down like the tq converter was still locked or partially locked.
- When I shift to reverse, the car will not move and the same grinding that I hear while coasting can be heard
- When I shift to park, the grinding can be heard, but the grinding noise comes to a stop within 5 seconds.
-Transmission fluid is clear red, and there was a very small about of metallic dust on the magnet in the pan. Imagine crushing 3 to 4 grains of rice into a powder, that is the amount of material stuck to the magnet. The metallic dust was well mixed with the tranny fluid, and it did not appear to be new dust or look like the transmission was making fresh dust like something was failing.

Center Differential Hypothesis:
- remember how my noise sounds almost chain like?
- I have my forward prop shaft out for a rebuild, it has been out for >2,000 miles.
A few have hypothesized that the t-case could be the cause. The idea was that if the T-case has somehow failed gloriously, the t-cases fork/synchro might be allowed to be in the right position while in drive, but somehow shift to another position while in park or coasting.
- Note, a normally functioning 4x4 KJ will not have P,R or D while the shaft is out AND the t-case is in full time 4x4.
- I know this T-case was abused by the previous owner. He trusted the a failing position light over the selector lever position and drove around in part time 4x4 a lot, thinking it was in a different road worthy position.

I'll be draining/checking the t-cast tomorrow.

Thanks in advance,
Daryl

You could take out both prop shafts and then run the car in gear while listening around down there. Use the old screwdriver stethoscope trick on the t case. Just an idea.
