Can titanium be used to read a gde tune and copy it for our use? Since the company has quit offering tunes permanently it would seem that it’s okay to open source that stuff now?

It’s certainly not impossible to do that.

The thought has occurred but I do not know if it would copy everything or only the parts we care about - copying everything might make it locked to the VIN of the donor, but if it only copies the maps and performance, then it might be possible.

I have not had the opportunity of two of them side by side to mess with, I personally would not want to try it with a customer's CRD until such time as I know it will be safe.

They are not VIN locked. Only the flash tool is.

I don't plan on sharing mine, because if people were too cheap to pay for their tune before, why should they get it now.

Based on your statement,
Not everyone was "cheap" and had $500 to fork out for a tune especially when the DIY tunes and tunes programed by Marco became available at a more reasonable cost.
Most people like to shop around and try and get the best value for their money, especially when other life expenses have to take higher priority.
I personally have compensated Marco for some of the the custom work he has done for me as I am sure others have done as well or at least I hope so.
This forum is all about sharing information and helping fellow owners be it parts, advice, avoiding pitfalls, cost savings, etc...
As for sharing a GDE tune, if it is even possible, I am not sure there would be a big demand.
I am perfectly happy with my tune by Marco and have no desire to change to anything different.
I have been running his tunes continuously for a little over six years now with zero issues and nothing but great performance, could not ask or expect anything more.

I purchased several gde tunes for sprinters over the years. I’m not too cheap, they quit offering tunes. I didn’t even have a Jeep at the time they quit. I’d gladly have given them my hard earned cash because they offered a good product, even if a bit over priced. But they caved to epa pressure and left us owners out in the cold so I have no love lost for them as a company. But, if you don’t want to share that’s fine, just know that I would if it were me.

I didn't miss out on the GDE tune due to being cheap: I missed out on it because they got shut down literally two weeks before I was about to order it. Chances are I'm not the only person who has had to prioritise how they spend their money on their CRD, and a tune isn't always going to be top of the list when you're dealing with a whole chain of issues the previous owner didn't address.

Can we disregard intellectual property rights just because certain intellectual property can't currently be sold in the US? I think probably not. The only one who should be sharing gde tunes or releasing them as open source is gde, assuming they still exist.

They don’t exist as a tuning company anymore.

Green Diesel Engineering still exists as a tuning company. We are only selling tuning for the ecodiesel platform and GM Colorado at this time in the US. The F150 is coming out soon along with all the Gen3 ecodiesel products like wrangler, gladiator, etc.

GDE does make it a habit of burying the GDE name in our tunes for copywrite protection. If one does copy and provide to a third party, it would be an easy infringement case for any lawyer. Not sure why one would want to risk that.

Doesn’t seem so. That’s their model now. Lol. Why would they monitor this board where they won’t even offer tunes for these rare vehicles. It would be funny in court though. Judge: how much losses did your company incur as a result of this file sharing? Gde: well, zero. Judge: so you’re complaining that your illegal product is being shared by niche enthusiasts?
Hey, it’s a free country, they can operate how they want to, but in light of the fact that they can’t sell these illegal tunes then why be so douchey about it? They left two customers in this thread alone out in the cold because they scared of legal action and so they threaten us with legal action? Cute. Seems like they just mad they don’t get all that income anymore. Truly sorry for their loss. I’m very thankful there are smart people on this board who created tunes and shared them free very generously so I don’t have to shell out too much money these kind of people.
