No sense in bothering w/ an oil war. The testing data will still show Amsoil the winner overall regardless what people's opinions are. Most people like to run the best of Whatever product they are buying. I can't think of a better line of lube and filter products for my vehicles. If I do find one I will switch though. I may be a dealer of Amsoil products but they don't Own me. I used to swear by K&N products and changed that tune real quick based on my personal experiences and the product testing data I found. I have always been a skeptic of automotive products that make big claims and I love to see them proven wrong. My personal favorite is when the FTC put Splitfire in it's place for false advertising claims. I know many people that swore those plugs were worth the money and that they were the best. HA! The test data I read showed it was BS.
Anyhow, I am glad there are skeptics of auto products and I wish they would work hard to disprove claims instead of just going by their opinions or what a competitior says. So much for saving my breath...... now my fingers are sore. :)

One thing I know for sure is no matter what oil you use, it will always last longer than your oil filter. I think the oil war is not as important as the filter war. I would love to see some current eval's of oil filters that fit the liberty. The mopar filter cut apart looks like a fleetguard filter LF9000 in design and construction. These are extended life filters for the bigger cummins engines. I am not confident the k&n filter I bought will last as long as the oem. I will be changing my oil at 6000 this time and cutting apart the filter to see the inside.

Well it's a dirty job but someone has to do it, just glad it is you and not me.

I'm seriously thinking about putting in 506.01 for the next oil change. What do you folks think? I can only afford to do two UOAs during my intended 12,000 mile OCI. If anybody wants me to pull more sample as the 506.01 guiniea pig, feel free to donate.

I already bought a case from Impex just for this purpose. I believe in Europe they all MB 229.51 oil which is about the same weight.

Great point about the filters...I happen to use Mobil 1's until the Amsoil one comes out. There are other great filters like Wix ect. To do extended oil drain intervals I still change the filter at 3000 miles and top off the oil with fresh oil. That way I get 15000 out of the oil with 4 filter changes. Thsi is one of those personal experiences I was talking about. It might be overkill but it is better than getting killed over it.

Darby. Amsoil already has the Ea Series out that is better than Mobil 1's filters. Ea034 fits the KJ CRD.

I would have already tried one but it is almost twice the price as the Mobil 1 filters. Like someone else he has said the price for the Amsoil products is rather high.

Sweet, even tho they are a little more expensive I could probably let them go 5000 miles instead of 3000 and be equal. I will order as soon as I get near 3000 miles...lol...still new!

The problem I have with using anything but the oem filter is the filter construction. All the aftermarket filters for the crd are the same filters for the 3.7 engine. I've cut my original filter after first oil change and it is not the same as a regular car oil filter. If you went to the dealer to buy filters for a crd and a 3.7 they would give you two different filters. WHY??? Because they are made for two different engines with completely different filter specs. Just look at size, bypass valve opening psi, and flow rating. They are all over the board- not a single one is the same for the aftermarket filters. This leads me to believe the manufactures just made the filter for the 3.7 and put the crd engine on the list because it happens to fit. A crd filter has to last 9000 more miles than a 3.7 filter. Think of the additional filtration capacity, ability to withstand many more oil pulses without disintigrating, and soot control it has to endure. A generic filter for the 3.7 will not cut it for me. From now on it will be an oem filter for me. I've actually got myself feeling bad about the $14 K&N I installed after the first oil change! I should have known better after I looked at the oem after removing it and really looking at it. I should also say I've never bought an oem oil filter in my life because I never saw the need, until now.

Didn't see that someone had already posted about the EaO34 filter.

And yes it is the same filter they list for the 3.7L.

The Ea034 is good for 15-25,000 miles and you get what you pay for.

STP and Purolator both list different filters for the CRD and they have similar construction to the OEM. When I cross reference these over to Wix, the Wix number listed is a different unit than the one they list for the 3.7L/CRD. I'm going to order some OEM oil filters online since the local dealer wants way too much.

Hmmmm.....I just went there, and they didn't have one listed for the CRD, only the 3.7. Did you have to call them?

The factory filter on mine was made in Italy and used a separate gasket. It had a different part number than the filter stocked in dealerships or referenced in the owners manual. It appeared bullet proof and was about twice as heavy as the replacement I put on.

When you say oem, do you mean your dealer stocks the Italian made filter that was installed by the engine manufacturer? If so, I'd sure like to get some.

Has anyone cut open both the OEM CRD & 3.7 filters and compared them? What exactly are the differences? What should be different?

I'm currently using the Ea034. I may purchase OEM's to cut & compare when I have time.
