Has anyone cut open both the OEM CRD & 3.7 filters and compared them? What exactly are the differences? What should be different?

I'm currently using the Ea034. I may purchase OEM's to cut & compare when I have time.
Different size filters, CRD filter looked a bit longer and thinner from what I saw at the dealership of thhe standard filter for the V6 engine. I guess I could take a picture. Nope, no way am I walking into the shop and asking to take a picture of the oil filters.

I am running the EA034. Have been running it since 500 mi. Got just over 3K mi now heading for 10K. It's good for 25K mi or one year is what Amsoil says. Just got to get around to installing the Bypass filter assembly.

Darby. Amsoil already has the Ea Series out that is better than Mobil 1's filters. Ea034 fits the KJ CRD.

Is there any objective information to support this claim? Not trying to be a smart a##, because I'm currently using an Ea034 and Amsoil Oil. Just wondering.

Put on a Wix filter at first oil change with low ash oil from BP. DCG recomends MB oil at $32 a litter or the BP at $12.85 a liter. I used the lattter.

Nah, that series is still pretty new. I guess when you say objective you mean other than what Amsoil says. All I see is what standards Amsoil says their product meets. I have found they are conservative in their claims and have come to trust them. Hope you get some resolution on your fact finding expedition.

Just was at the dealer and bought a CRD oil filter and looked at 3.7l filter while I was there throwing my dollars ($8.50+ tax) around. First thing I noticed was the big difference in the weight, with CRD filter being heavier. The CRD filter looked slightly larger in size, also they are made different when you look inside.

Forgot to mention it says made in Italy!!!

I think I'll have to cut them open...really not sure whether I should stick with Amsoil or go with OEM. Wish I had specs but seeing inside may help.

Just remember that if it looks bulkier/beefier inside that doesn't mean it will filter more or smaller. It is the quality and type media that makes the difference.

Yup, I agree. I only want to see that there are no unjustifiable differences. It's essentially guesswork without specs in any case. I won't really be looking to determine the most effective filter. Rather, I'll be looking to avoid possibly risky application/design.
