Is the indicator for this problem indicated by loosing oil...as indicated by the dipstick?
That is the funny part, the actual oil amount is just a few oz, not anything measureable on the dip stick as yet. The problem comes in when the air filter becomes oil soaked and filled with dirt, this can cause the engine to suck oil past the turbo seals and at some point cause complete failure of the turbo seals.

What really grips my behind is that this all could easly be prevented had D/C just installed some type of filter to collect oil and allow it to drain back to the engine.

Any word yet on when it's going to be available? Ballpark, guesstimates, predictions, anything?

Well I'm approaching 19K on my one-year-old Liberty. I've not touched or changed a thing since I bought the vehicle. Two EGR's and one EGR Air Flow Control Valve have been replaced under warrantee, but I haven't modified a thing. I considered installing a Provent but felt that it would be a hassle to remove every time I took it to the dealer (don't want to void that warrantee). I've been waiting/hoping for a solution like this one being developed by Old Navy. My question now - after installing an Old Navy oil separator - do you think that enough miles have been racked up without one that an intercooler and intake cleaning would be in order?

Yes!!! I had to have my hoses and the IC replaced before installint the CCV filter before I could even test the thing. I had oil oozing out the hoses and the one from the turbo was getting soft, all this because by the time the test unit was built and sent to me I was at 10k miles and had too much oil in the system to properly test the unit. I hope to get it installed in the next couple of weeks.

Old Navy, I changed out the factory oil at 300 miles, vented the CCV like we did on the TDI's and I am at 3500 miles now.
I have been checking the turbo hoses and they are spotless except for one mark that has dried and no film or oil at all.
Wife got 27.6 travelling today to different shops and small towns around our area. I believe that many ills can be solved
if we can fix this CCV, I am thinking of a heat tape for it this winter, I don't want any of that mess back in my vehicle, too
bad can't vent it post cat. Running the 5-40 European Synthetic and doing well. Sounds hard to believe after reading all
the posts here sometimes, but so far so good. Still interested in your results, just wondering if the moisture is also an
issue.

Are you talking about the "elephant hose" vent?

Yes we are DW.

I just wish I had done the elephant hose mod to the Jeep as soon as I drove it home. Can't believe I was that stupid and didn't do it first thing knowing about the problem as I did since I have owned 2 MB diesels, 2 VW diesels and now the Jeep CRD with CCV's and EGR's.

Was DCX willing to pay for the new IC and turbo hoses or did you have to foot the bill? I'm really interested in how DCX is going to approach these ruined Intercoolers. Warranty or denial that a problem exists.

All warranty pay, includding either cleaning or replacement of IC. I'm hoping for IC replacement and then grabbing the IC for myself. I would take it and have it cleaned at a radiator shop, and keep it for a spare.

How did you convince the dealership to clean/replace the IC and hoses under warranty? I'd like to have everything cleaned before I put on your CCV.[/quote]

I just took it in and complained about the hoses sweating oil and that the oil was eating the hoses and filling the intercooler and that it should be taken care of under warranty. The tech & SM thought so too and agreed that it shouldbe done and told D/C STAR rep, what is StAR rep going to say to a tech with 12 years wrenching on Dodge diesels for same dealer? Anyway they should have me in and done by Wednesday.

Lastest info on CCV filter:

There is a delay due to some minor design changes needed, but big delay of test vehicles due to my CAC system awaiting change out next week I believe, and other tester with failed tranny. We may be looking at Sept or Oct time frame before the testing is finished and sales begin.

Believe me if we get a couple design changes made and testing goes well like I think it will it will be well worth the wait.

If you want to keep your system clean till our is available see the Sticky: Recipe: OldNavy Alphabet Soup Ingredients:EGRCCVPRCACEGRFCV

Had my oil changed at the dealer yesterday at 2957 miles. The tech went to the dipstick and noticed the clear braided hose coming from under the engine cover ( OK, not as clear as it was when I installed it ). Asked me if he needed to be concerned with that little modification. I told him it was no concern of his...He smiled and said that was all he needed to know. The oil change was free...and it only caost me luch to assure he moved along... 8)

First opportunity I get, I'm going to pull the hoses off the IC and see if it's possible to snake a small, say 1/2" ID, hose all the way down either side of the IC to the bottom of the side tanks. Right now, working 6 day weeks and an MB with a leaky IP are taking up my time.

If it is possible to do this (ie, the IC side tanks aren't baffled), then it would be possible, although a PITA, to do a flush to get the worst of the crap out of the IC with it still in the vehicle.

cleaning it out would be the easy part. The part I'm wondering about is, what would be the best method to ensure any residual flush water is blown/dried out of the IC prior to buttoning everything back up?

A dirty IC is an inconvenience, but a slug of water down the intake.....

I've tried to think of a safe in-vehicle solution - came up dry - no pun intended. I think the only really safe method is to remove the IC from the vehicle. To do this, the AC condensor looks like it needs to be removed. I've heard that lifting the AC condensor up and over the engine bay is possible without disconnecting the refrigerent lines, but not recommeded by DC - if that is true, it might be possible to remove the IC and do a thorough job of cleaning it and drying it with pressurized air. However, the tranny cooling lines will still have to be removed from the bottom of the AC condensor, so it's still a little messy. If I clean mine, I'll attempt it this way.

The parts dept mgr said if D/C don't ask for the CAC back I can have the thing. So maybe in about 10 days I can tell you about the probibilities of cleaning CAC and will have info on removal/install, might even take pictues.

If you get a look, most interested in seeing if it can come out the top. Almost looks like the upper core support is removable (unbolt above the headlights). If the radiator can be tilted toward the engine, intercooler should be able to come straight out the top.

The tech thinks it will come out the top without any major problem, he commented that it looked like it might be a lot easier to get out then one on a Cummins.

Seems it would be easier to weld in a drain boss on the bottom of the intercooler...be nice to get a Fumoto fit on there

Ah, that's the rub... there is no bottom on the IC to drill, weld or otherwise install a drain. It's a side mount - tanks on both sides, no visible way to see the bottom of the side tanks from underneath.
