This is what I think about lifts and dealerships
Each dealership deals with warranty work differently, most rely on the same basics.
We need to understand that what we do for a hobby is prety darn tough on our jeeps, yes they are supposed to be built for that but still, we beat the hell out of them; and that might turn into trouble..... basically we all know what risk are we taking on our own and on our jeeps so we got to pay to play.
Last time I visited my dealer was right after MOAB, wanted to check alignment, bad joints, cracks, etc, etc, etc. Dealer knew from day one that I added a lift on the KJ, they asked what kind, who put it on and that is on my records with them. So, everytime I bring it back they know I've been playing with it on the trails. I bring it dirty, muddy, bent parts, misaligned, dust/mud all over the engine, mud on the floormats, etc, etc. Never a word from the dealer why I bring it like that.
One thing that I think does make me a good customer for them is that I do pay for service over there, everytime I bring it, I end up with a bill bigger that $100 for sure, sometimes past $200. I pay for oil change, filter change, alignment, wash, detailing, heck, I even paid $70 for them to change my tires/rims from the stockers to the Rubicons. What do I get in return? Good service, friendly mechanics & service managers, I get comments on the KJ, I make comments on my last outing while the KJ being serviced. Also, if they find something out of the ordinary, I usually have it done under warranty; I have gotten some things done under warranty that at the beginning I thought to myself - wow, this is neat - bring it and they fix it for free. But it doesn't work that way - I give a little, they give a little.
If one day I do break something big like my front diff - which one day it just might happen - just because I'm playing with the KJ harder and harder, I might get it done under warranty or maybe not - I just do not know but clearly on my mind, I know that I might break it while on the trails and that is one risk I'm taking - the breaking part - the other risk - if you want to call it like that - is that my dealer might fix it under warranty or maybe they won't - will not know until it happens. In the meantime I try to give them as much business as I can with the little things I need and build a relationship with them.
my 2 cents
