Beginner question: Am I supposed to air down the stock KJ tires when going offroad (225/75 16)?

Thank you

Yes, and it depends on what types of trails you do as to how much you air down. I have had the Wrangler SR/A's to 19 psi at Moab in 2005. Those are 235/70/16 though.

For starters I'd say go down to the low 20's, maybe 22ish. You want a little bulge where the tire meets the ground, but you don't want to pop a bead either. If you feel safe going lower, do so after you've tried it out. Most people seem to say don't go lower than 20 though on stockers.

You'll be amazed at what a difference just airing down will make in offroad ride quality.

Wow thanks for the quick response. I'll bring it down to 25 lbs (warm) so that should be just above 20 lbs. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks again

we usualy bring our 225/75 wrangler ATS,s down to 18psi and run hilly/rooty/muddy trails never ever lost a bead even when going side hill
i have brought my cheepo mudbrutes down to 16psi when it was very muddy
i would not recomend going lower than 22psi with out a good compressor to air up befor you get back on the road

...Came back from the trail. I went down to 25 lbs hot, so it was about 21 lbs cold. Wow, what a difference. The first time I went on the trail, I kept it at what it was set at; 35 lbs hot. I was getting tossed from side to side big time. Now, at 25 lbs the ride was super. I will try a little lower next time.

if you have the same mtr's as the rubbi's with a E load range then you could go to 14-16 no problem as far as on road i would do a search the is a thread that explains how to do it with chalk on the tires
