I know a lot of you have already given your opinion of this lift,
but I need you to do it one more time please..
I am still getting emails from people that are buying it saying
they haven't heard anything bad about it..

and then also your opinion on which lift SHOULD be purchased..

TYIA..

Okay - a couple of threads up they're talking about it - with an OTT the A arms don't hit the bumpstop - the strut tops out - kills the strut.

Pros and Cons of 2.5" Lift Kits (No Spacer lifts covered or non 2.5" Lifts)

PRODUCT
1. Frankenlift Coil
PRO - possibly THE best one - strut assembly already put together.
CON - Most expensive

2. Rusty's Coil
PRO - COULD be 2nd best/ lower cost (almost $300 less than Frankenlift)
CON - Not a Frankenlift - shock mounts smaller

3. SkyJacker Coil
PRO - COULD be 2nd best/ best looking shocks out there (IMO)
CON - Not a Frankenlift - costs between $70-110 more than Rusty's

That appears to be it for Full Coil 2.5" Lift kits. All others use spacers or not 2.5" Coil lifts.

SPACER KITS or only 2" kits:

BDS Coil 2"
Daystar Spacer 2.5"
Rough Country Spacer 3"
RevTek Spacer 2"
RRO Spacer 2.5"
Trail Master Coil 2"

Give your opinions folks. Those are mine.

*NOTE* No monetary funds were given to me for my opinions......I'll take $50's and $100's if willing. Certified check, trip to Greece, Mortgage paid off.....any of these will do also..........MUHAHAHA!!!!

Victim of the OTT here, I ahve heard the strut killing rumors and believe I may have the whisperings of a failed strut, but more importantly I just ruined my 2nd set of upper ball joints.

I have an 05 renegade with about 7500 miles on it.

STAY AWAY FROM OTT

I thought it was ok, but its not! Get a Coil lift and Al's arms, you will never regret it.

There is also the Daystar Spacer 2.0" Lift - Same as the 2.5" above but without the strut top plate. Works great on the CRD with out stiff front coils. The 2.5" leaves our front sitting way higher than the rear.

I love my OTT, glad I didn't go with any other lift. I've got 12,000 on my RRO OTT lift on 265/75/16's. I've never had a problem (knock on wood), never replaced ball joints or struts. If I had gone with any other lift I would have just paid $3000 to get my front diff and axle repaired. IMO Replacing a strut or 2 every once in a while is worth not voiding my warranty.

Please explain. Why would you have had to repair your front diff and axle for $3000 if you had any other lift.

there's another thread where flrenny's dealer said they wouldn't have warranted the damage to his front end if he'd had any other lift... but i don't know what caused the damage in th first place... he'll have to answer that one :)

one thing that i would like addressed here is this: people tout the frankenlift as being the best out there... well, which one? the one they sell now or the old one before they switched from the skyjacker rear coils? or am i missing something? there have been a lot of threads posted on here about torn CV boots and blown CV joints and those people seem to be the ones running the latest version of the frankenlift... i.e. too high in the front... BUT, the people that have had frankenlifts for years (older version) tell everyone that there is no problems..

personally, that's why i went with rusty's coil lift... i know i would have probably been one of the ones with CV problems had i installed a frankenlift... it's just my luck...

rusty's coil lift is working great for me.. no UBJ contact, no extreme CV angles, good stance, etc. (disclaimer: the rusty's rear shocks do not fit right as has been stated in the past, so i bought rancho 17004's for the rear)
so... a perfectly working rusty's coil lift cost me $666.60
rusty's coil lift........ $544.75 after shipping
Rancho 17004's...... $121.85 shipped free from Summit
Installation............. $0.00

Mark

My Rusty's spacer lift is working great for me. I am also ordering a set of Sky jacker bump stops (part # LBS-3383) to prevent the strut from bottoming out.

Don't quote me on this cause I don't know for sure but I your flex will be limited as apposed to a full coil lift.

All I know is the dealer said the front diff was comming seperated from the front axle. I forgot the work order in my jeep again out in the parking lot. Whether it would have cost $3000 or not I truly have no idea..I know they replaced drive shafts, and took the front diff apart.....thats just what the dealer said. It took them a while to figure it out he said that there was no play in moving it up and down, but when they moved it side to side they realized what was up? After thinking about it, I'm thinking it might have happened when I bottomed out really hard on the beach a while ago. I SLAMMMMMMMMED the front end on some hard packed sand doing about 25mph. But I have the engine skid (it's a RENNY) so I dont know how something like that could have happened. But that's the only thing I can think of. Either way, if it was lifted, non lifted it needed fixing. His exact words were "if you would have replaced the hardware (springs, etc) and put any lift on other than the spacer type lift, we would be voiding the warranty." So maybe any tupe of spacer lift would be ok by that explanation?

They have to prove that a lift was the cause. They don't have to warranty the struts and coil, but if the lift had nothing to do with a diff or axle damage, they have to fix those under warranty. The service guy was saving his dealer money and 9 x out of 10, the customer gives in to what the serviec guy says.

If money means nothing, trust your technician and accept what they say. Whose interest are they looking out for, you or the dealer? Make them prove it.

So in summary, because the lift you had somehow didn't cause the dealer to void your warranty, you were able to get an unrelated repair covered. According to that dealer, another spacer lift would probably also be acceptable.

I think your case is rare, however. Dealerships tend to be either lift-friendly or lift-unfriendly, and not very specific in between. Legally, the only thing different betwen a spacer lift and a coil lift is that the dealership does not have to cover a problem with the coil or the strut in a coil lift, but that is because those parts are not factory (as in, the dealership will not order and pay for a replacement OME shock for you). The CV angles and suspension geometry (among other changes) are all still the same between the two, and those are the more serious differences between lifted and non-lifted

I would not suggest that anyone go for a spacer lift based on this advice without first talking to your dealership. Typically, a coil lift will be BETTER for the jeeps wear and tear, since it is made for the purpose and not just making it taller. The frankenlift for example comes with bumpstops for the A arms as well as longer bumpstops for the rear. Adding a spacer without lengthening the shock/strut or moving the bumpstop will cause it to top out faster, damaging it.

Make sure in talking with your dealership that the person you are speaking with actually knows what he/she is talking about. Originally I was told that NO LIFT would void my warranty. The same person whom told me that year ago was the person who told me I was lucky I put on the spacer lift instead of a lift that consisted of chaging parts. It's kind of a catch 22....the Frankenlift is better for the Libby....but a spacer lift is less likely to cause a probably w/ your warranty at the dealership (IMO). If I could do it over again, I would have had the Service Manager put in writing what I could and could not use to lift my KJ, that way there would be no discrepency. If he would have told me the spacer lift is the only lift I could put on....It wouldn't have made deciding on the lift I wanted to buy, such a hard decision.

Is this ture? Can all the Frankenlifted folks speak on the two differant versions with the new version possibly causing problems than older?

I don't think it matters if you have the old or the new..... we got to understand that something is eventually going to happen - when you put a lift on your rig, my guess is that you will do some offroading - some people might do it just for looks - no question - a taller KJ with MTRs looks sharper than the stocker.
So... if you are modding it and you will be taking it on the trails, you are taking a risk.... light offroading or hard offroading does not make that much difference as we all know that a modded KJ can only do so much.
I know guys with the old Franken - I have the old..... I have not had a problem at all - did MOAB and I beat it up at Badlands at least once a month - I do not have any problems so far, but I know something will eventually happen. Torn boots, blown CV joints, blown diff, and everything else.
I don't think the folks at All J would be taking shortcuts on the new version just to save some or produce faster....
I have not personally seen or heard any probs with the new frankens so i cannot comment on that, but somebody with anold franken has already had problems with the boots.... is it because of the lift - it might be - maybe not - it is the risk you take to have a nice hobby.

Happy wheelin'.......

Ooppss... Think we hijacked this thread.... sorry

Its like the others have said. It has nothing to do with your lift and everything to do with your dealer. I have the RRO lift and the dealer I leased from threatened to void my warranty when a $900 repair bill arrived for the ball joints (All 4) in the front ; whereas the dealer where the repairs were done, took it in and fixed it. All the while complementing the jeep, and trucking along very business as usual.

Therefore the statement that a RRO lift will not void your warranty...or that it is any different than any other lift in the dealers eyes.

Denied!

By the way; if you have had the RRO for 12000 miles than you are due for a total failure. Mine died at 7k but I pushed the liberty I little harder than most do. (See the photobucket)
You are likely due soon, and I would reccomend doing an EXTREMELY thorough inspection, specifically of your upper ball joints. They may still be snug but I bet they have holes in em.

I'll check, but I never said that the OTT is sure not to void the warranty. I was just telling my story, dont put words in my mouth.

Hmmmmm. A spacer lift friendly dealer! Maybe that means they would be ok with the Daystar lift. It's much easier on the front end components. You could ask them if they would be ok with that one if you ever wanted to change.

Alls forgiven, wasn't trying to be rude, it's just happened to me a few times and I was a bit jumpy yesterday.
