Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone would be able to offer any help, or even suggestions. The front of my Rusty's lift has settled more in the front and has an ever-so-slight rake, and I was looking to remove one upper rear spring isolator from each side (I'm currently running two). Just needed an extra set of hands by someone experienced with lifting the KJ. I'd be willing to drive to get the help. Any lift parties scheduled in the area?
I'd also like someone with a lifted KJ to take mine out for a spin. I seem to be the only one I can find with a driveshaft vibe after installing the Rusty's lift....long story...see thread in 4x4 forum. Dealer of course blames it on the lift, and I wanted to know if I should be concerned about it or not.

Thanks everyone!

i live in milwaukee. i haven't done any lifting on KJ's, cuz everybody i know has XJ's and TJ's, but i'd be willing to help.

first step for you're vib would be to get the vehicle to sit level. second step would be to make sure you're u-joints are in good shape. if you have a u-joint that is so-so, it might not act up at stock angles, but put a little change in there, and it starts to show.

other than that, i can't give any suggestions without actually having it here and doing some re-search since i haven't had much experience with the KJ setups.

Thanks a ton for the offer scorpio_vette. Looks like Bakerkj may be helpin me out on this one. Thanks also for the input on the driveshaft vibe issue I'm having. Stealership said that the u-joints look good, and I'm hopin that removing one isolator per side in the rear may help out a bit. I'll be sure to keep everyone here posted with any updates.

BTW, do you currently have a kj? I'll probably answer my own question once I look at your sig. FWIW, the Rusty's kit is an awesome lift. Rides and handles WAY better than stock in my opinion.

Thanks again for the offer!! Can't wait until we get snow to have fun with the Jeeps in!!

Tell Baker to give me a call when you guys decide what day to work and I'll stop by as well.

no i don't have a KJ. i only have a XJ and TJ, and i run all rough country lifts.

i've seen on numerous occasions where a u-joint "looks" good, but in driveshafts it can sometimes be hard to tell.

yesterday i was working on a friends XJ with a vibration, and he said that his u-joints in the front driveshaft where good. so i pulled the front driveshaft out, and the joints were so seized up that i couldn't even move the double cardon joint in any direction at all.

but overall, vibrations do suck. some are common and easy to fix, and others can turn into real nightmares sometime.

Ah, crap! I should have checked this forum before going. I stopped by there after the Bears disastrous game and we took care of it. Went really smoothly and the vibe is considerably smoother now. Defnitely a huge improvement. Baker refused to take the $20 I was going to give him for helping. I told him I can at least buy him lunch or something.

Pixeldzn, I'm hopin I'll be able to get out and wheel with you guys some time in the near future. Sounds like a blast!

Thanks again!

Ugh!! KJ-BOL check out my response to Pixeldzn's post. I dropped the ball and didn't notice your guys' posts about it. We'll all have to get together some other time. I defnitely need more time to pick all of you guys' brains, as I'm still a newb at doin the mods on the Jeep. I've gotten pretty good at doing the maintenance on it, but not too experienced at wheelin or doing the mods.

Thanks!

Thanks scorpio_vette. Yeah, the vibes do suck that's for sure. I stopped by Baker's today and he helped me remove one of the spring isolators for each side on the top of the rear springs. Definitely smoothed out the vibe a bit, so the whole driveshaft angle thing was right, I guess. I don't usually like to stand 100% with what the dealership said too. Thanks again for the offer to help and the input!!

that's cool that you got it a little bit better. now to figure out the rest of the vib.

i used to work at a dealership for a couple years. problem with taking moded vehicles to the dealership is that they "usually" aren't used to working on them. so when you come in for a problem, they work on them like a stock vehicle. working on a lifted/moded vehicle is most of the time a completely different ball game.

I definitely hear ya on the dealership. I think I'm going to do what BakerKJ suggested and wheel it a bit to get the rear springs to settle more. The lift has been on @ 2 weeks or so. I can definitely tell the front has settled because of the obvious weight up there.

Thanks!

usually what most people do to try to get the lift to settle and break in, is put alot of weight in the trunk (assuming your rear is sitting higher). now with winter coming, you should be able to find those 50-80 pound sandbags at home depot again. throw a couple hundred pounds in the back, and go about your business.

just curious (since i'm not to familar with the KJ setups). what t-case are you guys running, and what options do you guys have as far as slip yoke eliminators or other driveline corrections??? or how is it setup from the factory???

They come with either the nv242 (select-trac) or 231 (comman trac). A slip-yoke eliminated is not need for most on a 2-3" lift because of the longer wheelbase on the KJs.

Thanks for the input Eddo.....I was waiting for someone to answer that for me since I'm pretty much still a total newb and not afraid to admit it! FWIW, I have the command-trac.

that's good to know. so the KJ's aren't really that much different other than a "bubbly" looking body shape. lol

what exactly is the wheelbase on the KJ's??? i know with TJ's, the lift/vib relationship is pretty consistent, but on the XJ's there just is no telling. i know guys that can't go 2" without a slip yoke eliminator, and others that are at almost 5" and are doing just fine without one.

personally i try to recommend the SYE with anything above 2" just to avoid possibly problems (vibs, etc....) and to give a little benefit off-road (u-joints not stressed so much).

my XJ is currently sitting at 3" and i was chewing up u-joints left and right and had horrible vibs until i installed my SYE. that's what i get for trying to take the cheap way out.
