Well I did it... I got tired of waiting for the chevy in my signature to sell (as I'm taking over a KJ from a family member who landed a company car) and decided to go forth with the mod's and pray to God that one of these 100's of phone calls I've been getting is truly interested party in the silverado...

Anyhow, I just splurged and ordered the Rusty's coil/suspension kit along with some new speakers and a headunit.

I'm trying to lock in the deciding wheel and tire sizing combo and could really use some help. I've found some really nice looking 17x9 wheels with 4.5 backspacing, is this going to give it a nice wide stance without getting into the ghetto looking setup or will this be too wide? I measured the rim tip to the edge of the fender with a tape measure and found that I need 2 inches to make the wheels flush with the fender. I want a nice looking wider stance but I don't want it to stick out so far that it spits rocks all down the side of my jeep. Need some advice badly with this width + backspacing = too hard for me to figure out lol...

Anyhow, I'll keep the post updated as I go until its complete with a sweet sig and a cardomain site to go along with it. I'd appreciate any advice, tips, and help if anyone would be so kind.

Buy 4, 2" Conduit washers at lowes or Home depot and keep them with you. When ever you install the lift, who ever is helping you can add those when they put the coil overs in. :wink:

Rustys lift comes with everything. If you bought the rear shocks also. :wink:

The kit says it comes with the following, I'm assuming this is everything I need?

This kit is a true suspension kit, no spacers or blocks. 4 coil springs, a pair of Rusty's twin tube hydro shocks for the rear and a pair of Rusty's performance long travel gas struts. These performance parts are designed by 3-D computer modeling which retains the factory ride while giving the clearance needed for larger tires to run on the most rugged off road terrain. The kit will allow clearance for a 31 inch tire. A strut compressor is required for installation, installation time will vary with experience and tools (3 to 5 hours).

It is important to get an aligment after the lift is installed. The camber, caster and toe should be set back to factory specs. -Rusty's Offroad Website

Some people will not get the rear shocks and buy the ranchos from somewhere else. Didnt know if you did that or not? :wink:

Well I didn't see that option, are the Rancho's that much better? I could always send an email and opt out if this is in fact an option.

Its a personal thing really.. I think you would need to of called him when you ordered the lift. Some people say they have problems with the shocks making noise and not fitting in the mount nice and tight.. You seem to see alot of them failing too and leaking oil.. If up to you really.. Im not sure but I would say the Ranchos cost more..

If I can get the rancho's, what is the part numbers I need?

Also, is this tire too big?

I don't know much about the 17" wheels, but I just switched from stock Renegade rims to Moabs, while keeping my 235/70/16 GY SR-A's. The Moabs are 8" wide with 5" of back spacing. The stock rims were 7" and I believe with 5.5" back spacing. Prior to putting on the Moabs, the sidewalls of the rear tires sat about 1.25" inside the top of the flare. After installing the Moabs, the sidewalls sat about 0.25" outside of the flare. Just right in my opinion.

You dont really need to know what the offset is for this use, unless you are worried about extra strain on wheel bearings etc. Offset is the difference between the the wheels centerline and the mounting flange. Positive means the mounting surface is out away from the centerline, negative means the mounting surface is in closer to the car than the centerline. 0 offset is when the centerline of the wheel and the flange are equal. Negative offset to the extreme can put extra strain on bearing and other sussy components.

So if I am figuring this right if the moabs are 8" wide with 5" Backspace then they would have 1" positive offset, which means you have 1" more rim on the inside of the flange than you do on the outside of the flange.

Wow...thanks for breaking it down into laymans' (sp?) terms for me!!! I've probably asked 25 people over the net including the wheel sellers online and no one has been able to explain this very well.

Only thing is though, if you have say a 17x9 wheel with 4.5 bs and .35mm positive offset, wouldn't this sit in further than the same wheel with zero offset? So if it does, then it would matter when trying to figure out the look I'm trying to achieve right?

Why a 17" rim, looks? Most people here that have stock 17" rims are getting rid of them for for better tire options in a 15" or 16" rim size.
Most popular and suited for the KJ being 255/70/16, 245/75/16 on 16x7 w/4.5" B.S. or 16x8 w/5" B.S. on a 2.5" lift kit.

The Liberty has small wheel wells to start with, not to mention, in most cases the front pinchweld needs to be flattened over with a big hammer to accomodate larger tires, which will still rub on the swaybar and front foglight area. Then theres the stuffing issues to contend with also, gas mileage drop and loss of torque with a larger diameter tire to consider.

Back Spacing is only one part of the equation that needs to fit with all the other parts.

Research well, or you'll find yourself with something you paid a lot of money for that dosen't work!
