I have a 2006 Liberty Sport 4X4 totally stock (with exception to the audio system) that is my daily driver. I have done a deal of mudding a trail blazing with an '86 Suzuki Sami, and a 79 Chevy Blazer, but not for many years. Since the Liberty is my daily driver and only have 5500 miles on it, I do not want to go through trails and rock runs that cause damage. But I do want to blaze some trails and have fun off-road.

Since I am not ready (modifications or mentally) for a Rubicon-type run, should I try this run with you guys? I am in Lexington, Kentucky (originally from Dallas, TX).

Andy

I'm really trying to conserve cash, since the twins will be here around the end of April...

Plus, I love a good camp fire! So, you down Don?

If I were you, I'd drive down and run around on the rocks at the start of the trail until we all get there, then park it and ride shotgun with someone until the end of the day. It'll let you know what's in your backyard, and allow you to meet the guys.

If I end up making this run, and I am by myself, I would be up for some camping. 8)

I can't see how you could camp on Friday with the drive down, but you could always crash in Dayton and leave at 0530 with me if you want to save some. For the trip back, it is National Forest, so I think it would be fine to camp over Saturday night. Just depends on the weather and your gear.

I really did think you were joking, so I laughed. We may need some input from the other guys as to what camping areas are close to the trail, but it looks like a great number of them are seasonal. I am down to camp if my wife and kids don't come, but remember that I don't have monday off like you do so I would need to drive back on Sunday afternoon, unless I take the Monday off.

Here's the website I was looking at:

You could camp at the cave in our pictures. My understanding of NF is that unless posted otherwise, you can camp.

I would plan on returning Sunday, so no need to take Monday off. A designated camping area would be best, since there would likely be some decent spots (level ground, tables, and fire ring). I wouldn't want to camp by the cave in all the pics because it is probably popular spot with a lot of traffic. I haven't looked into the campsights yet, so I'll start to review the area as well.

By the way, the bro-in-law is looking into to get out of the Cherokee and into a used Rubi...

Is a half day friday a possibility for you? I'd rather drive in partial daylight if we can.

I agree on the developed campsite - I like that better too. The area closest to the trailhead is the "London" area from what I understand.

Can't wait for Dennis to score a Rubicon - preety soon those are gonna dominate our group from the way it looks!

For the repeat offenders - what is the official name of the trail you guys always take so that I can call the forest service office and ask what year round campground would be the best option?

London is at the end of the trail that day. We typically go up to Richmond for food after the run due to choices, but y'all can skip that if you want.

Based on the info you found Don, we have 3 choices for camp sites - Little Lick & Bee Rock (open yr round) and S. Tree (some sites open yr round, just need to call 1st). S. Tree is northeast of the Exit 49 (the normal starting point for the run and close to Livingston) and Little Lick & Bee Rock are southwest.

Based on the GPS topo from the last trip, Bee Rock may be the closest campground...

I can check on the 1/2 day thing, probably not a problem. I haven't talked to Dennis yet, so I'm not sure about him.

Sheltowee Trace Trailfor a bit then Fallis City Rd. Don't be surprised if they tell you off-road driving is not permitted. According the the FS we are still on a an established road driving legal street vehicles, hence not off-road driving or operating off highway vehicles.

If we finish that early we had plans of exploring the Wildcat Mountain/FR737+736 area.

If you had skids and rocker rails, then I would say you should be "ok." A LS or locker REALLY helps too. You have a higher risk of getting body damage without a lift though. :?

I have skids and rocker rails. But don't need anymore body damage. Have my Jeep at the collision shop now getting fixed from the rear-end accident and getting hit by a tree at "The Badlands"
