Shudder after WOT => fixed...

Hello everyone,

I know that most of you already know this but I just wanted to make a seperate thread so everyone would read this. Like most other people I always had the shudder after WOT. I always thought it was tranny related, until I bleeded my fuel line. After bleeding it I havent had a single shudder, yet.

That would have been the first thing I would have checked having been around diesels for years, and I think I did post it on one ocassion early on as one or maybe two others did also I think.

Now that we know (think) it's air in the fuel we need to find out where it's getting in :!:

It seems to have cured mine also but in about a week of the small amount of driving I do it comes back :shock:

RFCRD found his was leaking at the fuel heater plug :wink:

Others have found lose hose clamps and or banjo fittings. I have not found anything yet but being winter I'm not looking too hard :lol:

I bleeded mine a week ago. Shudder hasnt come back yet.

Instructions on bleeding procedure??? Would like to try and get rid of this miserable shudder.

It's about replacing the filter but the bleeding procedure is talked about. What people leave out is to put a piece of plastic hose over the nipple and catch the fuel so your kj won't smell like a 18 wheeler :lol:

Maybe this subject along with equipment needed for trailering should be made sticky as they come up daily :roll:

The shudder in mine comes back after a couple of startups. My wife is taking it in today (again) to have the dealer try and find the air leak.

in one other thread the air leak is noted as being at the fuel heater, specifically the electrical connection. I'll try to find the post.

The dealer thinks they found the leak in the water in fuel sensor. There is fuel coming from the inside of the sensor and down the wires. I hope that fixes the problem.

I checked the fuel heater connection and the was no sign that anything was leaking at that point.

This is a common issue and a more serious safety problem than most people realize. Mixing fuel, electricity and a heater element is not a good combination. Just ask Ford easy it is to ignite brake fluid. Please take the time to file a complaint on the NHTSA website.
