Don't know where you are, but in US the average cetane for LSD is 42 and for ULSD it is 46 cetane. Our CRD's engine was designed for 50 cetane plus fuel.
I am in central Colorado. They don't post those numbers on the pumps. I knew the requirements. That's why I said 49 was good. I don't think ours are that high out here.
yes the 49 is quite good and that is why I mentioned about the design spec for diesel fuel.
If you are using the LSD that averages 42 cetane, you will not believe the difference after a couple of tanks. Remember 5 gal of LSD and 15 gal of 46 cetane ULSD makes 125 PPM fuel at about 44 cetane.
Most of our problems with the engine will go away I believe with the use of ULSD fuel. We are on our third tank of the ULSD and the change in the CRD as really been eye opening, it runs snmother and quiter then it did when running B20 LSD, has more pep and the huge clouds of smoke after a couple of weeks of city driving are no longer. I still am using Power Service, but the fuel provider has stated they use a bio based fuel additive that increases lubercisity and is a cetane improver.
That said I still have the clunky shift at 35 if I back off suddenly at 35 mph, all other tranny complaints seem to have dissappeared as we drive the vehicle. Maybe there is a learning curve after the F37, 47,000 more miles to find out.
