I wouldn't even go as far as to throw the owners manual in his face. I'd just ask for my keys and leave, but before I did that... I'd ask him...

"Now just what do I do when there's no more LSD to find?"

I'd like an answer to that question.

Well, just think...if everyone was using ULSD...they wouldn't have any more EGRs to replace....the guy is just trying to make sure his job is secure

What a moron. He probably meant ULSD and not LSD....he probably got them mixed up because he just learned them in his most recent training class...give the poor guy a break.

They tell me the Liberty was not designed to run on ULSD. I should be useing #2 LSD ONLY with an aditive for winter driving.

Any one else been told this by there Dealer?

It's amazing how little the dealers know about this engine, or diesel in general. This engine has been in europe for years which has had MUCH more stringent fuel requirements than we have - sulphur content being one of them. ULSD may get you a little less mileage (arguable) but it won't "hurt" your CRD. Will probablt keep you from having the dreaded EGR problem!

Nope. With the EGR failures, ULSD is exactly what should be used in the CRD. My tech claims it is a cure all for the EGR/exhuast issues. I do use PS with every tank for cleaning, and lubrication.

And if you want even more cleaning/lubrication, run a little ATSM-spec biodiesel (but not more than 5-20 percent if your area gets below freezing). I love the way mine drives on B100 in the summer. Purs like a kitten and smells like fried chicken (with better mileage than #2 and nearly as good as ULSD).

MMMMMM. I like fried chicken. :D When I left the dealer on day one, he took me down to get a free fill up. It was B20. Later that night after reading the owner's manual, I was surprised that he did that since it said B5 was ok. No mention of B20.

Hmm sounds like my KJ. Nothing but euro spec ULSD in my US spec KJ from day one. Not a single EGR issue.

Most reputable resources suggest that the 5% recommended limit is not because of the effects of bio on the engine, but due to the somewhat lacking consistency of bio production in the US today (i.e. not NEARLY as tightly regulated as ULSD, and people still have problems with that...). I can't blame DC for trying to limit repair claims that MIGHT be caused by bad fuel. Some people don't rinse/react/dry their fuel as well as they could and all the side-effects are detrimental to a modern diesel (not as much in older MB diesel sedans and what-not).

If you homebrew, get some tested to be sure, and if you buy it, most places will be willing to share lab results with you. Even the better not-for-profit co-ops do.

I swear I wasn't trying to hijack the thread in a bio-promotion....

Have used ULSD for a while, almost since I got my jeep. I replace my first EGR at 70,000 kms. They still clog up, its not a cure all, its a bad system.

I understand DCX has raised the 5% to 20% now as told by rob92kj (super tech) on the other furum. 8)

You should have your Dealer read your owners manual. My 06 book calls out to use the ULSD.

I was just back in for my second EGR in 3000 miles, first one was either bad or they didn't replace it, because there is a big difference in how it runs, and the fuel mileage jumped to 19mpg to 23mpg on the first tank after the new EGR.

When I made reference to what the tech told me about not using ULSD, The real diesel tech told me they let the other guy go because he didn't know his butt from a hole in the ground and was cutting corners every chance he got, must be why the EGR was still bad.

What the real tech said now was it wasn't necessary but probably a better choice to use ULSD.

Last I checked, he specifically mentioned the Cummins engine.
