Factory Stereo Specifications

I have the factory Stereo in my 2006. It is a regular single CD(no Mp3) player. I was wondering what the max and RMS wattage are for it. I found a site w/ the RAH mp3 stereo that says it has 66w max output. I was wondering if mine is the same. Also, w/ the 6 speakers how would that be separated? 11 to each or less to the tweeters on the dash??

I looked up what type of radio I had on my Build Sheet and it is:
RBKS AM/FM Compact Disc Radio w/Chgr Ctrl

Also, I just answered part of my question. I have 66w total. I found this link showing a comparison of the Mopar radio specs:

I still am curious what the wattage to each speaker is and if I replace the factory speakers, what RMS I should look for(I'm thinking the lowest I can find)

The stereo most likely has only 4 channels, which would correspond to 16.5 watts per channel. The dash speaker and front door speaker share a channel that uses a passive crossover network (usually just a capacitor in series with the dash speaker to filter out the bass) to split signals.

As far as speakers go, by choosing a speaker with a lower RMS rating, you will get better bass response than you will with an aftermarket speaker with a higher RMS rating. But you should notice improved clarity regardless of the RMS rating (assuming you get 2-way speaker.) A 3-way or 4-way is a waste in my opinion. Hope this helps.

The "premium" Infinity 6-speaker system also includes an additional amp built into each of the two crossovers. If I remember correctly, all six speakers run off these additional amps.

OK thanks for the info, I'm going to look for some 2 way speakers now. On Sounddomain.com it says 3.5" speakers will fit my dash without modification. I remember reading in another post that they were ~1-2", I wonder if sounddomain is maybe wrong.
Also, Is it possible to add in those crossover amps that are in the infinity system? I want to keep my stock head unit because I like the stock look but I want to make it sound the best it can.

As far a getting the Infinity option, I won't say it can't be done, but it will be hard to track down all the amp(s)/harnesses. Plus it will be expensive. Also, the premium infinity speakers that come from the factory are two ohm speakers(at least they used to be.) So you would need to replace all the speakers with premium infinity speakers to get it to sound right.

I think the best thing to do would be to get a set of components. They come with a crossover network. The only thing is you will have to fab up a set plates/adapters in order to mount the tweets in the dash and find a place to mount the crossovers. You will probably lose some bass response by changing from the stock speakers, but as I said before, you will improve clarity. To make up for the loss of bass you can always add an aftermarket amp to the components. Or add a separate amp and subwoofer. Either of these options can be cheaper than trying to upgrade to the infinity.

The front speakers and tweeters are probably 2 ohms each and the rear mid-ranges 4 ohms each. I'm assuming the front speakers and tweeters are wired in series to create a 4 ohm load. I'm actually running the left and right front/tweeter combinations and left and right rear speakers as four seperate 4 ohm loads off my 4-channel Alpine amp right now.

What if I just run small 2-way speakers on the dash instead of tweeters would that work?
I found some speakers on Sounddomain that it says will fit for my kj(although I'm not too sure I trust it because Crutchfield doesnt find any dash speakers that fit)

Running two 2-ways, one in the dash and one in the door, will give you four discrete drivers. I'd think you'd only need three at the most: high, mid, and bass. Since you really only need one dedicated bass driver for the entire vehicle, you'd probably be fine with either a dash tweeter and door mid, or no dash tweeter and a door 2-way. Then just add a seperate woofer.

The problem with running two way dash and two way door speaker is that there are two ways to wire them and neither is ideal. In series you get 8 ohms which drops your power output from you radio, in parallel you get 2 ohms which will over load the radio. Although you might be able to get away with putting a bass blocker on the dash speaker and wire the door and dash speakers in parallel. This way at low frequencies the radio is only seeing the 4 ohm load, but at higher frequencies it will see the parallel combination. This is basically how the factory system is set up. So to answer your question, yes you can put a 2 way in the dash and the door, but it is not ideal. And, I would bet that you will have do some modification to get the infinity 3.5s to fit in the dash.

My first choice would be component set with tweet in dash and mid bass in doors. (then add a single sub to improve bass response if needed)
Second would be 2 way in doors only. (then add a single sub to improve bass response if needed)
Third would be 2 ways in dash and doors, but with bass blocker in line with the dash speakers. (then add a single sub to improve bass response if needed)

You won't find a tweeter that will be a direct replacement for the factory. But all you have to do is make an adapter plate out of ABS that is the same size as the factory speaker and mount the aftermarket tweet in the plate. Here is a link to the ABS

If I just change the speakers wont the passive crossovers still work? So, wont the ohms be 4 for the dash and fronts? Or are they built into the actual speakers instead of being wired into the wiring?

The Infinity crossovers are mounted to the back of the front door speakers, but they might come off.

I don't think I have the infinity system. I probably should have mentioned that earlier. I have 6 speakers but I just have the regular single cd stereo(non-mp3). Does it stil have crossovers w/o infinitiy?

There isn't any badging for the infinity speaker system... I always thought the only way to tell was if you had the steering wheel audio controls or not.

I forget now also, but I don't think there was a non-infinity 6speaker package for the Liberty?

There's a page on jeep.com that lets you enter a VIN number to see a Jeep's build list. Try your VIN number and see if Infinity is on the list.
