I took a photo of the Shift Kit so you can see how basic this Kit is.

Whats the drill bit for? Does that mean once you put the kit on, you cannot take it back off? :?

Yep,like most shift kits that I've put in you have to drill out(make bigger) 1 or more holes in the plate that is between the valve body and tranny case. You can get OEM parts to replace it to go back to stock but I bet they are not cheap.

Don’t worry about the drill bit. This is used only for the 604 application.

For those of you who are wanting more information on the purpose of this simple but effective Kit, I have provided a piece of the manual which explains the shift feel changes. TransGo says that the tight wound spacers “causes shifts to be shorter and cleaner. It does this by allowing the releasing clutch to exhaust faster.”

Extra Side Note: If the transmission is in the vehicle you will skip this step. Most of us will not add the new Low/Rev Piston Housing (known as the steel spacer) that comes with this Kit. The updated plate fits all years and models but the manual does not explain what it does. Perhaps someone who has installed these kits before might have a better understanding what the difference might be. Along with the “steel spacer,” an O’ring and expander spring will not be installed. This is NOT a big deal and is not a necessary installation. Keep these parts in case if you have your trany out, rebuild, or install a new trany somewhere down the road. I will report back after talking with the mechanic who will be installing this Kit and who has installed this Kit in the other DCX Makes and Models. He has done many of these Kits and says it is a breeze.

Well, if it’s the same KIT, then I’d say “YES”, it’s cheaper than what I paid :!: I think I paid around $50 bones for mine which included shipping. Mine is being installed tomorrow. :D

I wonder if that shift kit will make as much difference as the reprogramming kit for the 45RFE. There's not as much to it as mine, and that's why it's a lot cheaper.

SS-Virus, is that for a remanufactured torque converter, or for a custom built torque converter? A remanufactured torque converter isn't going to help you unless your current one needs repairing.

As I thought, it is "YES", they are going to rebuild the TC, but I don't know if they have any other choices, as far as I know the TC is heavy thing attached to the trans. and they are going to lower the weight for it allowing the trans. to run lightly, is that right?

Keep two things in mind. 1. Our Liberty only had 1,700 miles on the odometer at the time of the install. 2. My beautiful and most gracious wife (Who okayed the install) does most of the driving. Therefore, I do not have great quantitative data revealing the before and after assessments. However, I can say that the shifts are “shorter and cleaner” than before as stated by Transgo. You might be a little disappointed if you’re expecting a powerhouse, throw you back into the seat, type of shifting. If you aren’t happy with the lag time between the factory shifts, then the Transgo might be your ticket. The cost is minimal for the Kit. You can really save the denero if you install the Kit yourself. It cost me $150 for the install. The mechanic lost about 7.5 quarts of trany oil during the process, which we gladly topped off with AMSOIL ATF. Unfortunately, our wonderful engineers at DCX decided that we didn’t need a dip stick for our newer Liberty’s. So the mechanic had to run the Jeep over to the Dealership to use their “Dip Stick” to make sure we were up to par. I hope that somebody makes an aftermarket dip stick so we can at least check our fluids. This is ridiculous………………Anyway, I have always respected Transgo and their products, so I was a trusting guinea pig. Since we plan on keeping our Liberty for LIFE, it was a good investment! It was certainly a monumental moment as we took our first steps towards building our little Jeep.

Hey Thanks for the reply, mines got over 74000 with all but 145 done by me so I will be able to tell for sure. So from dead stop it will not bark the tires with each shift, what a bummer! Hopefully mine will be here in next few days.

I'm on my 10th day of waiting...I paid last monday and i haven't received mine yet. I'm going to give Wayne a call tomorrow and ask when and how it shipped. Since my KJ has been at the dealership for warranty repairs the whole time, i really hadn't thought about how long its been til now.

I thought it might not make as much difference as the better of the 2 for the 45RFE. Mine's described as:

Performance Shifts
Corrects: Soft 1-2. Heavy Throttle Long 2-3
Firmer 4th and Lockup
Couldn't shift like this, till now.

That's a little different from “shorter and cleaner”.

It might help to reset the adaptives. It will also take some time to break in your "brand new" valve body too. You also still have the torque converter to take care of, and programming too. You need to be really nice to your beautiful wife and get the other upgrades for her Jeep.
