I figured losing the signal lights was going to be something simple like a blown fuse. Then the engine light comes on... any ideas?

Hi hokiecb,

By chance were you pulling a trailor? I had something like this happen when I was pulling a trailer. Took the CRD in thinking that the CEL was due to a recently changed EGR. As it turns out, there is a TSB #18-038-05 Rev.A for a the P0504 (Brake Switch Plausibility with Redundant Contact) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) that might be the cause.

The DCX recommended fix for it unfortunately is to flash (reprogram) the ECM. I do not recommend this unless you have already had F31 or F37 done. Otherwise, there will probably be a performance drop in your CRD. See the http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... highlight= thread for more details.

BTW, you do not need an ECM flash to clear this problem if it is the same one I had. I would consider getting the CEL cleared and seeing if it returns again.

Anyway, I hope that this helps.

Yep, I was pulling a trailer. Well I was pulling it when I had the signal light problem.. the light didnt come on til after I unhooked it and got about 1/2 mile down the road. F31 was done before I purchased it and F37 has been done as well. Can I clear the CEL without going to the dealer?

There are a number of ways to clear the CEL code. You can clear the code with a scantool. If you don't have a scantool, you can borrow one for free at Advanced Auto Parts, Auto Zone, or some other auto parts places. It would be good to call around to see which ones in your area have this.

Alternatively, after a number of trips, the CEL will eventually go out. Anyway, good luck with it!

I keep seeing this advice on the board. The last time I was in the local Autozone they told me their scan tool had the clearing function disable and they could only read codes not clear them. Some legal issue no doubt. Don't know how widespread this is.
