I am of the opinion the CRD is a keeper. Very Happy
And you may be even more convinced to keep your CRD when you read what Nick Cappa, manager of Chrylser's Advanced Technology Communication told Diesel Power editors, when they suggested that Chrysler had a tremendous market for the diesel Liberty CRD.
About the diesel Liberty CRD and why they were not planning on bringing it back to North America -
"We sold much more than we expected. The Liberty diesel was a success almost to a fault, but phasing it out(in favor of the higher priced GC diesel with the MB V6) was part of the long term strategy. Bringing back a diesel Liberty to North America is not in our long term plan, but it's not impossible."
How great it is that our 2.8L diesel is one of the most rebuildable diesel engines in the world, with advanced features like wet sleeves, normally only found in much more expensive larger diesel engines. With replaceable wet sleeves, you can buy a set of pistons, rings, rods and engine liners, replace the valves and run another 300K miles. As long as you keep the soot out, change the oil and keep normal maintenance on schedule, you could run this engine indefinitely, until the body is gone. Then you could swap the engine/powertrain into an older CJ or by then, an old JK and have a great rig with immediate resale value, or even better, drive it off-road.
