jdumont,
When you sign up for insurnace is not when they deny you coverage. Obviously you have never had to deal with one of those cheap online insurance companies. It's when you are in an accident is when they say woops soory about your luck.
They have all the neat little tricks they pull when it's time to pay off.
State Farm is denying coverage, STILL, down in the gulf saying all the damage to peoples homes is due to flood damage and not wind or storm damage. Makes sense doesn't it.
A little piece of fact for you to think about.
State Seat Belt laws. Know why we have them?
Hint: It has NOTHING to do with saving lives!
Insurance companies made states like KY here enact them and make them PRIMARY offenses (meaning they can write you a ticket for it if they see you not wearing one at a stop light and doing nothing else wrong). So IF or When the insurance company prove that you were not wearing your seat belt (depending on the accident, a bruise on the shoulder is a dead give away that you were) then they will deny coverage because you were breaking a traffic law while in the accident. Same ploy they use to deny DUI accident coverage. Saves them a bunch of money, but they still take your premiums.
Having that little phrase on the box that says "Air Bag Compliant" DOES make a BIG difference. Means ARB has tested them and the insurance companies can not say they were not the cause of some injuries. Not a big issue as long as other people hit you, but make one little simple mistake in a mall parking lot and see how fast they check out your car.
I speak from experience. State farm (my insurance co.), Travelers, Hanover and Progressive (all 4 involved in this one) looked at my smittybuilt bull bar after this accident to see why my airbags DID NOT fire (That year XJ was recalled for the arming lever not being installed correctly). But they backed off real fast once they concluded that if they had fired, they would be out a whole lot more money to my family in death benifits. The 17 year old that hit me was racing his cousin and passing on a small hill and in my lane. He was at fault and violated Georgia Traffic laws. His insurance company denied coverage to him and did not fix his brand new Neon.
Ask ARB Why they put that on their bumpers.
