Could you clarify? The original "Off Road Mod" = ORM is unplugging the MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor). Is this what you are talking about?

Let me clarify, In the past two months my Jeep has been in the shop three times. I am looking for answers to why it keeps dying on me. I saw in a post that the ORM should be unplugged. I was just curious to see how may people did this.

I think you are getting confused with what the ORM is and what a MAF is. ORM is a name for a procedure you can perform on your CRD. ORM stands for "off road modification" and the process consists of un-plugging your MAF (mass air flow) sensor. So.. you would unplug your MAF.. and that act of unplugging your MAF is called the ORM.

I have performed the ORM on my Jeep. It runs a little louder and I use the ScanGauge II to turn off my check engine light. This is... until I build and install my ORM circuit.

the ORM plugged or unplugged hasn't had any impact on the engine dying - for that you need to be looking at the threads on Air in the Fuel, fuel filter, lift pump.
That seems to be killing CRD's - and the dealers can't seem to identify the problem.

Can you clairify "dying on me". Does it just shut off and won't restart or does it go into limp mode? When I first got mre CRD it would just shut off at any given time with out any warning, and would not restart. The first time it happened I had it towed into the dealer and they found the Fuel injector fuse (25 amp) blown. Popped in a new fuse and it fired up and ran perfect. We assumed it was a faulty fuse from the factory. Over the next 2 months it blew 5 more fuses. I would just open the hood and replace the fuse and drive away. Since I couldn't work out a pattern of why it was doing this I took it back to the dealer and left it for a week. They replaced the power wire that runs from the fuse block to the Injectors and I haven't had any more problems since. I had my jeep for a year now and it has run perfect, It's my favorite.

When I am driving the motor starts to shake and smoke, at full throttle I barley managed to get it off the road. I will shut it off and it will restart in about 10 min.

Sounds like air in the fuel.

When this happens, try bleeding the fuel filter head

This is what's going on with my CRD

If I punch it from dead stop the motor will wind up to 2800 - 3000 RPM but the car is not accelarating as it should. Also once in the 5th gear and going 55+ MPH there is no way to downshift unless I hit the OD button. I have a brand new air filter, and I tried running it with MAF pluged and unpluged.
The MAP was cleaned twice and it is as clean as it gets.

Any ideas?

I do have a wired code P1854 that no one can identify. There are less than 10,000 on the ODO and all the recalls were done.

Based on my TDI experience, I'm leaning toward a vacuum leak. As I'm new to this motor I am not sure what vacuum hoses to look at. I am not sure where to go from here (except to a dealer - I still have 2 mths of warranty left!)

Chime in with your ideas pls.

My CRD never scoots if I punch it. I need to nurse it a little then punch it otherwise it just moves like a slug. Very counter intuitive.

There is another thread on here, forget which one, with a similar problem that was associated with a second sensor on the air box. Seems as though he had been working on the air box and forgot to plug that second on (not the MAF) back in. I don't recall that he got the same P code that you are getting but it might be worth a try. Vacuum could also be an issue but so too could be an air leak in the hose into the intercooler (Sir Sam had a leak there under the loom that was only detected in a pressure test).
