So get this... I was heading home from NJ last week. I'm on the cross Bronx, took the exit towards the Throggs Neck Bridge. I'm in the right lane, two big trucks in the left lane ahead of me. The front one, a big dumpster truck. it's hood FLIES OFF and up into the air, into my lane, touched down just in time for me to hit it. I hit the brakes, but had nowhere to go to avoid it. Nailed it good, went right over it!!!

It left some green paint on my tow hook, knocked my right foglightcompletely out of the bumper, shattered my right blinker, cracked my bumper a smidge, and loosened my bumper and grill where they join.

The truck didn't stop!!!! I think he touched his brakes for like a sec... I pulled over, to see if anything leaking or I had a flat. All was ok. I caught up to him at the tolls, but he was 6 lanes over explaining to the cop on duty why he had no hood!! I tried to pull over and wait and get his plate number, but couldn't safely. Thinking of calling the bridge folks to see if he was written up or anything.

I can live with the bumper crack and the grill being a teeny out of whack, and I have a line on a new blinker (replace my rear lense while I'm at it), but the fog light has me stumped. What are they actually mounted to? Wondering if the bracket is lost too... Anyone else had one get knocked out?
Thanks!

That reminds me of the time I was approaching the George Washington Bridge on a motorcycle. Flat bed truck about 1/4 mile in front of me carrying 4x8 sheets. As I'm watching the sheets start coming off the top of the pile. Before I can react, one comes fluttering through the air directly at me. I'm in traffic and have no whre to go and couldn't accurately project it's trajectory. Just my luck it comes directly at me broadside first. I figure I'm dead. I grab the bars, duck below the windshield and just hope that after it hits me and I go down that I don't get run over by the traffic behind me. Sheet hits me broadside on and shatters into big chunks with absolutely no impact force. Just as I'm thanking god for the miracle I realize that it turns out that what I thought was sheet rock was actually those thin styrofoam panels used for insulation under siding! Man, talk about needing new drawers!

Friend of mine wasn't so lucky. He had a bath tub come off a truck in front of him while he was on a bike. He hit it and was lucky to survive. Really messed up the bike.

I've had mufflers come off in front of me, and even once a hub cap shot off a car and hit me, shattering a side panel but missing my leg.

yeah i've had a few close calls like that as well....going to school in the morning and driving southbound while a northbound car's hood flies up and sticks to the drivers windshield, started swerving left and right, i barely had time to stop phew! another was more of a sabotage story....my dad was in his super duty and i was in the passenger seat and we're towing jet skis behind us....pull out of the neighborhood and a little ppunk kid throws a zippo lighter out his window and spider webbed my dad's windshield, he immediatly stops does a u-turn and literally smokes the tires taking off after this guy, we wrote down his license plate and if the stop light went red instead of green the kid would be hurt and my dad would be in jail right now.....thankfully it didnt get that serious, but the police were called and the scare tatic worked for the 16 yr old.......sorry for rambling

Hey Casher, what kinda bike you got? I ride Triumph, we should hit the Hawks Nest sometime!!

All I could think about at the time was "I almost rode my bike today..." Glad I didn't!!

Yamaha FJ1200 - Went to Hawk's Nest about 2 months ago. The dang restaurant on top of the overlook has burned down! And the new owner was bike friendly. Even had his Triumph inside.... (hmmmm.... maybe had something to do with the fire...)
