I'm really interested in this thread (and the 4" and 6" lifts), because I happen to be at a point where I need to spend about $1,500 in replacement parts just to keep my 2.5" lift. One of my upper ball joints needs to be repaired (so I need a pair of Al's arms), my front springs are sagging and I'm sure my struts (original) are going to go soon (so I need to invest in a new Frankenlift), my rack and pinion bushings are shot, my steering is making a weird noise that I need to get looked into, and there's something else that I haven't been able to find that's causing my wheels to toe in like crazy on turns (my tires are badly worn on the outside edge).
And I'm guessing that I've just been lucky that I haven't blown my LBJs or grenaded my front diff.
I'm disgusted enough that I've tried to contact All J's about a SFA conversion (no reply yet).
So...I'm asking myself, how in the world can they get away with a 4" lift when 2.5" is thrashing my KJ?
I would LOVE to see a full page write-up on JeepinByAl.com that lists all of the problems that KJ owners typically have when they lift their Jeeps 2.5", with a description next to each ones that explains why their 4" lift won't have those problems.
- Shaving the CV is interesting, but that doesn't affect the crazy angles imposed on the steering shafts. And when you look under the front of a lifted KJ, there are all kinds of unnatural angles that put pressure in places that were not built to withstand that much pressure.
- Clearance for 32" tires is great, but how do you avoid exploding the front diff?
- And what about the weak front axles? I guess JE Reel and others make stronger shafts, but it would be nice if they were included in the kit.
I really hope this kit is successful, and I don't have any problem with the price, but I'd sure like to have a better understanding of why it isn't going to break stuff when you're wheeling hard.
But...at the same time, it's nice that JoeJeeper has personal experience with it and seems to be pretty happy with it. Joe, do you expect to have to replace suspension and steering parts every couple of years?
