Here is the thing about aftermarket WINCH usable bumpers it is hard to make them compliant with air bags due to the fact that you plan on pulling against the bumper frame excetra so to do this it has to stout enough to handle it so to make it crush well and pull well it is hard to do like the arb and road armor bumpers that say they are airbag compliant It is deffinately not going to bee to oem specs.I have designed my mounts to be able to give some in a front end collision so it is not like having a 1" plate bolted directly to the frame. There is room for give.If people want it to work like factory than stay factory.
JHCRASH,
I totaly agree. we cannot have it both ways. Nobody ever said that your bumper, or anybody elses custom steel bumper, should or does work to OEM specs. If it did, it would not be needed. The fact is that we all want a BETTER bumper than the lawyers and designers in detroit tell us we have to have. That is where you come in. The previous posts are just meant as a topic of awareness for all who are interested in after market materilas for thier KJ's.
I had no intention of talking down about your bumper. quite the opposite, I think it looks great and so do others. I wish you all the success in the world in this venture.
My post I just put up in another topic about this matter will explain my point a little more for those who still don't get it. I talk about a friend of mine who has 3 engineering degrees and fabricates truck for a living in a 3rd generation company. His concern is what sparked this discussion for me and I just want to help make others aware of the gravity of the decissions they make. I decided to go with the ARB because of looks, price and availability.
That was my decission. Others will make different ones. just think it through.
JHCRASH, I would love to see your bumper on MORE KJ's, send some to KY and I will photograph them for you.
