Thank God Reflex wasn't around during the days of unfair taxation and the Boston Tea Party or he'd have tried to convince everyone that we should just pay England their money and stop breaking the law. We'd still be a colony!
Oil companies were on the hot seat recently for record profits, but guess what folks....they are a business. They are SUPPOSED to make money. It's called Capitalism. It's a GOOD thing. Now, if you look at the breakdown on the cost of a gallon of gas, "big oil" makes about .22 cents profit. The government (city, state, county, federal) takes about FIVE TIMES that much. If you wanna find the REAL crooks, look no further than your closest elected official. Just because someone does something within the confines of the law doesn't make it right. Just because someone breaks the law doesn't make it wrong.
If we don't DEMAND fair taxation on fuel either through or representatives (which is usually a dead end street) or via protest (not driving, using "off road" fuel, etc.), then we'll continue to get gouged.
Just look at illegal immigration. There are so many illegals in the country that there is nothing the government can do about it except just ignore the problem. Can you imagine if we tried to deport or imprison all the illegals? It'd cost more to do that then to just leave them alone.
This country was founded by rebels. By people who knew a better way HAD to exist. Our government has largely forgotten this, and they have turned into more of a "big brother" trying to protect us from ourselves.
I've got a darn good idea. Just flat tax everyone. Abolish all other taxes. Of course, the government wouldn't be able to control us then. No "incentives", "tax breaks", etc. Everyone pays the same percentage. PERIOD. Wouldn't it be nice to see the net amount on your paycheck and know that's all YOUR money and you aren't being taxed over and over again. You pay taxes on your income, then when you buy goods, when you license your car, etc. It's stupid! Just tax me once and let me keep what's left.
Anyone who turns someone in for circumventing what amounts to an excessive tax is nothing more than a Benedict Arnold who is siding with a government that's lost touch with what they were supposed to be doing.....the will of the PEOPLE (us!).
Oh no....I've gone on a rant. Oooops.
