I didn't catch the whole ad but last night as a lead in to an ad for the new 135i coupe there was a short flash of full screen text that went something like "If cars in the US operated on diesel the US ecnomy would save $33 billion dollars a year". So....does this mean BMW is getting ready to introduce it's diesels in the US? I believe they have a 1.7 liter CRD for small cars that is pretty economical and they have tested a 60 MPG diesel hybrid I believe.

Well If everybody in america used diesel, diesel would be $10/gallon and we wouldn't save any money. I do think it would be nice to see alot more options in the diesel market here. I don't understand why diesels are so rare over here. In a way it is kind of good that fuel prices are up, it pushes new diesel technology forward here. The only limitations are the emission standards. Hybrid tech is nice but if TDI owners can get almost 50 MPG without hybrid tech then hybrid tech should get closer to 80 MPG. I sure do hope BMW introduces there diesel models over here, along with Subaru and there new diesel engine and all wheel drive, along with everybody else who makes diesels. Bring them on, Me likey options!!!

Big companies like our domestic automotive companies care more about cutting costs than building what we want to buy. When ever the engineers can get something past the bean counters, they have had a great time. But like every political situation, defeat your opponent and there is payback and winning the company political squabble matters more to them than the life of the company.
Companies like BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, AUDI, and VW stress engineering more and do not see it as a necessary evil as the US auto companies do. What we can all do that would get back to the big cats would be to walk into the show room ready to buy asking for what we want, when they spout their worn out script citing "EMISSIONS" and do not deliver, tell them what we want again and walk out the door. When they hear that enough, the dealers will raise hell and the Fat Cats will Listen.

I would like to have a Patriot CRD for my Wife but they don't sell them and I don't have the time or space to pull the TDI along with the needed controls out of a wrecked donor Jetta and install it into a Patriot.
I will not buy the Patriot gasser with a suspect Mitsubishi gasser engine, no way :!: Her next car will most likely be a Passat or Jetta TDI wagon.

No rumer it is facr and was announced several months ago. Currently you can pre order a 335D, X3 or X5 in a diesel. I already called a dealer in the uS.
