Taxing to provide basic Education, Infrastructure such as roads, Law Enforcement, or National Defense is a fair tax that is needed. Taxing for the purpose of Wealth Redistribution as preached in Marxism is Marxism. Wealth Redistribution is like a woman being pregnant, she can't be just a little bit pregnant. When the tax rate is analyzed, one should look at the bottom line to determine if it is better to have the Government or Private Sector to provide the needed service. Taxes for needed services is not Wealth Redistribution, hand outs to able bodied people for doing nothing is Wealth Redistribution. Needed services that do not come from the Government are paid for by those who want or need them, as I do.
People in each City, County, State, or Country need to be proactive and determine what is a needed service and weather it should come from Government, Private Sector, Non Profit Organization, or Charity. Wealth Redistribution which is going to the free loaders at all points of the economic spectrum needs to be cut off. Dragging Corrupt Government Officials, Criminal Executives, or small time free loaders who SCREW the SYSTEM out in hand cuffs on live TV makes a good news story and lets the public know the laws work. Clean up the trash in the house and you have a clean house, the same holds true for a society.

Obviously yes we need the basic stuff for society - but where does the definition of basic come from? In Denmark we have free hospitals, free schools, free universities, free doctors and a lot of other free stuff. However, if you don't use it you still need to pay for it. Denmark is like one big insurance company - except there is no difference between people with the same income. If you make more money, you will pay a higher percentage of that income. We don't have a fixed percentage, if you make more than a certain amount (40% of the population does) you pay 15% MORE than the 48% in income tax. Essentially you end up paying 70% tax of your last earned money.

They say that an unequal society is a bad thing which creates more criminals. So their taste of equality is that everyone has about the same money in hand. Because everyone can just go to university for free the highly educated people will have to pay back to society the rest of their lives. Actually a carpenter would too because they are making good money. So now they are thinking about upping the limit of when you pay the extra tax because those poor carpenters shouldn't have to pay because that would make them do less moonlighting. Where as an engineer as me can't do that (which I would happily do because the reward is getting at least the double from my work) as my neighboors don't need me to program DSP software for their converter production...

wow!! I thought this thread started out about diesel fuel tax :?: I think it's very unfair. I owned a single axle dump truck registered at 34K lbs. The registration fee to operate in 2 states (Pa. & W.Va.) was $720/yr.!!! Averaging 6-8 mpg I burned plenty more fuel than a gasoline power car. I beleive I payed MORE than my share to maintain roads for everyone else. :x

Being a 34k dump you do more damage to roads from your weight(and being single axle) so you should pay more in road taxes since you do more damage then a 3000lbs car does. The extra road tax on deisel is for that reason, many deisels are very heavy(80,000lbs range) and do more damage to roads then a 3000lbs car, does it make sense? Yes it does, why should a low impact car pay more for doing less damage then a high impact dump or semi? It's life,it's fair, get over it.

The War with Radical Islam started in 1979 when the US diplomats were taken Hostage in Iran.

Really? I thought it began in 1095 AD when Pope Urban the II called for a holy war to retake Jerusalem from the infidel muslims (also known as the First Crusade). Followed by 9 (or 12, depending on how you count) subsequent invasions of the middle east by Western armies on similar grounds by 1300 that ended up provoking a thousand years of hostility that still divides the place today.

Of course, the religious propaganda was really a front for the Church's effort to tighten it's grip on political power in Europe by getting the lower classes up in arms over a common enemy, thereby weakening the strength of the increasingly secular nobility and merchant classes. Later, the aristocracy and the merchants came to embrace the invasions because they sought to establish military and economic power over the region. Plus, there was a lot of money to be made in supplying these Crusades with mercenaries. But of course, there could be no lessons found in history to help inform us about what is really going on in the world today.

In any event, could someone tell me wtf all this really has to do with diesel taxes? Or what useful info a bunch of whining about diesel taxes provides to CRD owners?

Threeweight: You can trace the current conflict back to Abraham which predates Mohamad and Islam if you wish. My point was that Iraq is but one battle in a WAR that historical practitioners state started in 1979. I have no reason to contest other wars and crusades that have been recorded as history long ago.
To have a simplistic view, some will contest that current world battles are over OIL when our opponents cite lack of compliance for their Specific sect of Religion as the reason for them starting the war, not OIL.

Do I whine about Diesel taxes? NO!
Do I feel it is fair to pay extra tax for diesel? YES, why should I pay more when I have invested more to have a CRD that is more efficient and better for the environment?
Why should I lie?
Do I feel that taxing diesel extra just because, is lame brained Marxist Wealth Redistribution? Yes
Do I oppose tax incentives to get people motivated to invest and work to produce new sources of energy that work? NO!
Do I oppose energy companies investing in other sources of energy other than oil? NO!

If you feel OIL is EVIL and want to be totally free from oil and the extra tax on diesel, may I suggest the following:

Grow completely ORGANIC oil seed crops for your Biodiesel using no commercial fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides.
Produce your Methanol from wood chips instead of purchasing commercial methanol made from natural gas.
Produce your Sodium Hydroxide the old fashion way from the wood ashes you burn for heat so you avoid using any electricity.
Run your mixers and other mechanical parts of your process from wind power, hydro power, or a small diesel engine powered by biodiesel.

One could only hope that when we finially rid the middle east of Radical Islamic Extremists, that in return OPEC will reward us by raising their crude oil output so the price will drop....or better yet, send us diesel!! Of course, it will have to be donated, as this country will be too broke to pay for it.
Can the govt. tax donated diesel?

I don't care what reason people use to justify why the current scapegoats de jour are the reason to keep voting for Joe Schmoe politician and keep hating anyone who disagrees with Joe Schmoe politician, and accuse anyone who points out doing so is a Marxist. I do find it kind of funny that the new War on Radical Islam talking points ignores the Shiite (the Iranians) and Sunni's (the Saudis--you know, the guys who attacked us on 9/11) are mortal enemies and have been so for centuries. But the folks who benefit from more American blood and treasure going into the middle east won't let little things like history or fact get in the way of a good narrative.

Me, I think the whole thing is kind of goofy and serves to do nothing but raise your blood pressure and further fuel the nasty, destructive nature of politics in America today. I prefer not to define myself by what politician, voter group, or country I hate, but to each his own.

My beef is with wasting space on the forum with that tripe.

I thought that was why I paid so much more for my Licensing fee. if the fuel tax is based on my weight, then they should take some of the taxes off of the fuel I put in the Liberty, right? According to your theroy, it should be about half what it was on my 3500 Ram dually.
