Driving an 05 myself with larger tires I sure hope you find a way around the problem.

I just had the pinion adjusted yesterday at the dealer for $42. Took the tech all of 15 minutes....though I have an '04 without ABS. He said he could manually adjust the pinion from around 350 to over 750 since my tire size was not an option. I did have a few tips for him provided by meh_kick when he watched the tech do his a couple weeks ago.

Dealer called on friday and said they got the BCM replaced and the tire size was put in the system and it all worked!!!

So I go down to pick it up, start to drive off and the speedometer does not move. I turn around and talk to them again. They hook up the scan tool and whaddya know, It seems like the new BCM is misbehaving too!

So this is getting a little ridiculous! They are going to order another BCM and put it in next week. I must have a cursed Liberty or something. But the good news is that the tech said he got the tire size change to work and inputed 672 revs/mile and it worked until I tried to drive it off the lot.

On a side note, the tech did say that the new springs (OME H/D) made the liberty ride better than any stock 2002-2007 liberty he has ever been in. So anyone looking for a great lift, I can't say enough about the OME's

Good to see that for someone it worked easy. I think you are right, you have to educate the dealer most of the time on this thing, as they are not familar with many people lifting liberties and putting larger tires on them.

I can chime in on this topic from personal experience. I got Toyo AT 245/75R16s and tried getting the BCM reprogrammed at the dealer a couple months ago. They were adamant that the Liberty could not be reprogrammed and I fought back saying that I knew of those who had done it (you guys :D ). They said they would look at it but they would charge me $45 whether they could change it or not. I gambled and sure enough they could reprogram it using the revs per mile. I told them to input 681, which is what the Toyo website says is my rev per mile.

It shifts better and seems to have more torque but my speedo is still pretty far off. When it reads 65, I am passing people on a 70mph freeway. My displayed mpg is pretty bad too, but my computed mpg hasn't changed much. I dont have a GPS to be absolutely sure.

Anyways, I remember someone saying that he had to tweak his revs per mile to get the speedo reading correctly. His ended up being 715 I think for the same size tire.

I will stop talking now.

Got the Liberty back today, but I am not really any closer on getting this speedometer taken care of. According to the tech working on this, the computer in my 2005 will not accept a change in the revs/mile setting. He stated that when he inputed the change to what I wanted, the next time the vehicle was started the speedometer would not work at all. However, it would begin working again if you changed the setting to one of the pre-programmed tire sizes.

They did contact Jeep directly and spoke to electrical and a drivetrain person there (according to the tech) and both of them said "Sorry, Liberty's are not supposed to have any larger tires on than what was put on at the factory." Gotta love that kind of answer. The tech was really great through all of this and he was as frustrated as I was about this whole process.

Here is my guess as to what is going on. If a given jeep computer has tire sizes and a option for revs/mile only the tire size input will work (i.e. 235/65/17). But if you have a computer with only a revs/mile input, then you can change the size as needed.

Anyone have any more input?? Or is there any dealer in the upper midwest that is known to be great with modified jeeps and libertys? I would like to call a second dealership and get a second opinion if possible.

Thanks all.
