lol yea what another member said. if your going over 55, then theres no way you need 4wd.

some people think "oh i have 4wd i can do 70mph on the snowy highway" haha

if its snowy enough to need 4wd, then i wouldnt want to be anywhere near 55mph in 4-hi!

you CAN be in Drive, in motion, and shift into 4WD-FT or 4WD-PT but NOT 4WD-Low. I prefer to shift into 4WD-PT around 5-20 MPH, higher just makes me nervous.

Shifting into neutral can help it go in to 4WD easier while in motion.

acording to my users manual for 4-HI your not suppose to exceed 45mph. So you could probably ajust that to 50-55mph and its not suppose to be shifted into gear abouve 25mph

Thats more for the older vehicles with locking hubs. However I do it anyway, and it also helps to be rolling 5-15mph in neutral when shifting.

it was more for the electronic locking front diffs, My step fathers S10 Blazer is like that have to back up to make sure it deactivates, never had to do it with anything I had with manual locking hubs

Well my '81 Chevy Scottsdale K10 has automatic locking hubs, and if you're in 4wd and get out of it, and don't back up several feet you will sure feel it.\

Never had manual locking hubs, so I just figured it was the same.

Did you look in the small little slot above the glove box when you open it for the manual?

that was the first place i looked

Just checking....many people have missed the slot and not realized it was there.

Seriously I actually discovered my owner's manual in that "secret" cubbyhole months after I bought its.

When you think about it if the weather is bad enough for 4WD than you likely won't be traveling at 55MPH. Also it's worth mentioning that "part-time" 4WD shouldn't be used on pavement, even wet pavement.

Yep the automatic (PITA) locking hubs you had to back up, hate those things, still would love to have manual locking hubs ( guess after the SFA I will  ) People complained about having to lock the hubs in, most never thought about it until after they were stuck, I always locked mine in way before. Oh well thats why we have all of this computer junk now due to lazy, uneducated about 4WD, people

Yea i hate the auto-lock hubs. A pain to service, and makes removing the front rotors a real pain.
