OK, I reckon it's time for a meet for the Queensland mob to firm up dates and arrangements so we can get our leave planned.

I suggest the weekend of 28/29 March or 4/5 April, at our place for lunch.

Let me know who's coming.

Come on, there were more of you showing interest than that! Anyone else interested in coming over for a LOST lunch? And which weekend do you prefer?

Well Easter Weekend is only four away, and there will be plenty of people at Camp Coffs to help with that Cheese Cake.

We're happy with either. So lets make it the 28th/29th March until someone says they can only make the alternative.

Only a suggestion...................... why don't we make a social outing day of it e.g. picnic BBQ at ...............Kenilworth or ?????? Yes/No????

Cheesecake on the deck or cucumber sanga's in the forest both sound good to me, however I doubt very much we will be able to attend either...buggar.
We are still keen on the trip though.

Ok then, let's say Sunday 29th March for lunch.

Anyone else who wants to turn up is welcome, even if you're not planning to come on the trip, but advance warning of numbers would be appreciated - Cmohr needs to know how large a cheescake he has to make!

OK, we had the first Queensland pre-trip meet today (great cheesecake Cmohr!) and came up with the following change to the itinerary. Because some of us are planning a 3-week trip whereas others can only manage 2 weeks, we decided to do the Simpson crossing first from east to west, then go on to Uluru. This way the two weekers can take the quick way home whilst the three weekers can explore further.

So the current itinerary is:

Queenslanders leave Bris or Gold Coast on Sat 22nd August. Sat night at Morven, Sunday night at Windorah, Monday night at Birdsville. We suggest that the Sydney contingent meet up with the Qld mob at Birdsville on Monday afternoon. G'me Mud, pick your meet-up place.

It is generally agreed that three days are required for the Simpson crossing (about 500km from Birdsville to Mt Dare. We suggest we allow four days - gives some time to play at Big Red before making the crossing. So we will aim to be at Mt Dare for the night of Friday 28th August.

From Mt Dare to Uluru is 640 km, half on dirt and half on bitumen, so it's probably too much for one day - so we will arrive at Uluru some time on Sunday 30th. Anyone coming down from the NT or up from Adelaide can meet us there. Also anyone coming over from Perth.

That's as far as we have planned it so far. If anyone has any comments on this itinerary, please let's have them.

Next Queensland planning meeting will be for lunch on Sat May 16th at Team J.a.G's place at Bonogin on the Gold Coast.

We agreed that we would make up a list of required spares and share them around, so that between us we had at least one of everything needed. For example, we have a good tyre plugging kit, so no-one else needs to rush out and buy one. However it would be a good idea for everyone to have a sand flag.

Ed, if you're coming we will need to divide the CRD specific spares between us - otherwise I'm on my own!

Current confirmed Qld starters:

Cmohr
G'me Mud
Nobster
Pipeliner
Team J.a.G
& Team J.a.J (Liz's sister and BIL in their Pajero)

Just had an email from NTJEEP (off AJOR) who wants to join us for the trip - so with the NT joining QLD and NSW we can really claim it's an Australia wide event!

Come on WA, what are you waiting for!!

Isn't there any KJs from Victoria or ACT (and I include TAS but assume their distance of travel would be difficult) that would/could be starters:?: :?:

Team J.a.G won't be at Coffs due to family committments, but they are planning on dropping in on Monday between lunch and tea on their way back from Newcastle. So that would be a good time to have a trip meeting with Glend, gi frog, and any other Sydney trippers.

See you at Coffs! Just look out for the Inferno Red KJ with the winch bar and HF aerial and come and say hi.
