KJ119, The Elephant Hose Mod is the fastest way to eliminate the problem, at the expense of what Cosmo noted - stinking at lights. If you don't want that, something like a ProVent needs to be in your future. Personally, I would like to figure out a way to connect the CCV outlet directly from a provent into the exhaust line somewhere so that the oil smell gets incinerated by the exhaust heat. Back pressure shouldn't be an issue, I don't have anything other than a Flowmaster down there anymore.
But that is for the future. First thing is to get the truck back, then get (or build) a provent and leave it venting to the atmosphere. Or... (evil thought here) Instead of putting the Provent outlet back into the CCV suction port on the intake...
What if it was venting its pressure into the airbox, BEFORE the air filter? The suction there is pretty low, but it is still at a negative pressure. The smell gets taken into the engine just as before, but the oil doesn't get inhaled b/c of the hoover-power of being close to the turbo!
Discuss, please. Could solving the problem be this simple?
An oil saturated paper filter does not pas much air. Your MAF sensor will also be toast.
I understand that possibility... So directly running the EHM to the airbox won't work. But what about this path for the stuff: CCV outlet -->>> Provent oil trap -->>> Now oil-free-gasses -->>> Intake box with low suction.
I'm trying to avoid venting b/c of the smell, but also not subject that stream to deep suction. The slower the CCV air moves, the less oil it can pass. So I would figure that the Provent would be LOTS more effective at scrubbing the mist out.
