Friday, I had the TSB done at the dealer, since my AC wasn't as cold as I would like it and the TSB covered it and the shudder. The acceleration appears to really improved as far as I can tell. I just asked the dealer about the TSB, he looked it up and told me what it would do and that was it. No hassle at all. As a matter of fact I had condensation in my front turn signals which I asked about and now I am returning Tuesday for new turn signals. I been so far very satisfied with my dealer.

Glad to know things worked out for you. Hopefully mine will be fixed too.

Another thing,Recalls and Customer satisfaction has nothing to do with TSB.I've notice on here and other forums that dealers are BSing their customer, because TSB cost Chrysler money, and they need to save as much as they can.Dont let the Dealer BS you.

Rich is right. Besides, the dealers don't work for Chrysler, they work for themselves. Unless the dealer has been falsifying warranty work or is way over on his "DAZE" report (a barometer of how he compares to other dealers warranty-wise) he should be thinking of keeping you as a customer instead of whether Chrysler's CEO will be sending him a Christmas card or not.

Slacker! lol

:D The TSB has been released but I don't know if the service guys can actually get it yet. If this works it will be great!
This issue has been a pain since 07. About time they did something about it.
I love my manual trans!

The new TSB is now available at your dealer. First reviews are great.
Described as the same modifications as the B&G reprogramming.

This is what the guy posted on the Nitro Forum:
Quote:
So I've Flashed and road tested my Nitro extensively and here's what I have to say. Don't wait any longer, run to get this flash done. This is the way the transmission should have been programmed when the Nitro came out in 2007. This flash is exactly what I had done by B&G Chrysler.

What some thought for the longest time was a torque converter shudder and actually was a drone/vibration from the engine is GONE! Light throttle driving at 75-80km is smooth and RPM's are no longer down at 1200 because torque converter lockup is not engaged. Lock-up in 4th comes on like it says in the TSB at 50mph. I also found the downshifting out of lock-up much more responsive. No more hesitation with throttle input, it downshifts nicely and accelerates the way it should. I say the way it should only becuase I have a lot of experience with Chrysler transmissions.

If you hated your Nitro because of the way the transmission shifted, you will again LOVE IT!!! Right now I'm impressed that Chrysler finally published a fix. I didn't think it would happen. To Chrysler -->

The new one I mentioned was just released. I mean just released. Take your ride back and have them do the TSB # 18-023-09

Any of you who have the tranny issues should have this TSB performed on their jeep. Special thanks to Scar0!!

I'm a bit confused here. I have not had any of the Tranny TSB's completed, so which one should I get if I have an 08 Automatic tranny? I'm not sure if I have the "shudder" issues, but since I got it (March 08 ) it kind of "jumps" from time to time when accelerating. Doesn't shift smooth. Is this the shudder issue? Anyone have that issue?

I will try to explain my issues. When i would drive mine at 1500 rpms around 35-45 mph and if i kept the rpms steady i would have some vibrations or weird sounds coming from what seemed like the torque converter, the jeep would seem like it was slowing down. The only way to get over this, would be to accelerate causing a sudden rpm jump and it would run fine. Now if i would slow down again the same thing would happen. I had them perform the earlier TSB but it did not do anything.

Hope this helps.

Ravi

With the old TSB #'s (PCM/TCM* programming). Between 35-45 Mph the torque converter would go into a partial lock-up. The engine RPM would be around 1200 to 1500. The shudder described, is similar to a low lug on a manual trany. (A high gear & not enough power) causing a lurching effect.

With the new TSB # 18-023-09 the partial lockup in 3rd gear is no longer there and 4th gear does not lockup** until 50 MPH.
Essentially what this does is prevent the rig from low lugging itself. Making driving smoother and shifting easier.

* Power Control Module/ Transmission Control Module
**Lock-up torque converters
Pumping losses within the torque converter reduce efficiency and generate waste heat. In modern automotive applications, this problem is commonly avoided by use of a lock-up clutch that physically links the pump and turbine, effectively changing the converter into a purely mechanical coupling. The result is no slippage, and virtually no power loss.

The first automotive application of the lock-up principle was Packard's Ultramatic transmission, introduced in 1949, which locked up the converter at cruising speeds, unlocking when the throttle was floored for quick acceleration or as the vehicle slowed down. This feature was also present in some Borg-Warner transmissions produced during the 1950s. It fell out of favor in subsequent years due to its extra complexity and cost. In the late 1970s lock-up clutches started to reappear in response to demands for improved fuel economy, and are now nearly universal in automotive applications.
More info can be found here.

Hi Folks,

Just curious here - I'm having an issue and I'm wondering if its my torque converter and if this TSB may help.

I'm stopped at a light or in traffic, giving the vehicle NO gas. as I bring my foot off of the brake, I can feel the car "vibrate/shudder/jump" lightly. It feels alot like warped rotors, except they aren't proportionate to my speed - in fact, I'm still stopped, just starting to BARELY roll. Warped rotors at this speed would be more of a long pulse - lasting probably 2-3 seconds. The shudders I feel are about half a second long each.

Ideas?
