Sub enclosure/rear storage

so ive been thinking about doing something for storage in the back of my jeep, but i dont want to lose space in the back so my dog can still be back there on a flat surface. so im going to try and make something that fills the whole bottom with storage to create sort of a false bottom. i also have a sub just laying around and was thinking about adding that too, problem is im not sure how sound quality will be with what im planning on building. i havent takin the sub out and measured exactly how deep it is but i dont remember it being a very deep one. i think i have about 2 cubic feet of space for the sub but wonder if anyone has any suggestions? or any ideas on how to increase sound quality, will this design be ok? ports needed? will it just all sound like crap? lol
remember i want to keep a flat bottom so my dog can still hang out back there.

not the design you want - but lots of good ideas on tiedowns and cubbly holes.

yea i saw his, i might borrow a couple ideas from his design as far as storage goes. i didnt want to mess with adding drawers though. i plan on hinging the lid and making it as form fitting as i can, i really like how his fits and acts like a new bottom to the back of the jeep.

I would install the amp under a seat to create more storage room back there. I want to build something for myself back there...

that was what i was thinking at first. but then i thought what if i leave the windows down and it rain, or i go wheeling and it floods some or anything else that could happen. just seemed like a safer place to put it.
my main concern is if the placement on the sub is ok, if theres enough room for it to still sound good with the lid closed. im thinking of adding a 4in port at the front and one in the back(one against the back door, one up against the seat) dont know that much about making sub boxes but it seems like it might help out soundwise.

As long as the sub is short enough to fit in the box it should be fine. A sealed box is a good all around box. I would just leave it sealed and not worry about porting. As for the amp maybe try mounting it on the back of one of the seats maybe, I would just want to mount it in a place to give the most amount of storage space. Plus if its completely hidden and covered you might have overheating problems or shorten the life of the amp for it being exposed to prolonged heat.

ahh that was another thing i was wondering about, if the amp would overheat or not.

i could also cut a hole in the amp compartment and add a fan maybe.

I am mounting my amp up on the headliner (not literally, but will be mounted on the ceiling in the cargo area.)

if you are worried about how the sub will sound, do some research. the speaker should drive the design of the box.....if it is sealed, ported, free air, and the enclosed volume.....if you don't know any of the specs on the speaker, a sealed box would probably be the best since randomly adding ports probably won't help (good designs actually tune the port by the diameter and the length of it).

i know people like to throw together subs and boxes without doing research or design work, heck i've done it, but what you end up with might not please you. :2cents:

thanks for the help, i have done a little research but some of it is a little mixed. i have heard some say i need like 2-3 cubic feet for the sub compartment. and seen elsewhere that around 1.5 is ok. right now im at about 1.5. when i go home i will measure the depth of the sub i have to make sure but it should fit well in there, although it doesnt leave me with much room if i decide to use a much deeper sub.

anyways i updated it a little bit added some access holes and a port (which i will probably go ahead and remove)

im still undecided on whether i want to keep the amp there or attach it to the bottom of the passenger seat.
