So I have a flowmaster 50 series muffler that sounds great. I have been having this "tweet/squeek/pain in the booty noise" that I could not figure out what it was. The first fix was to turn the radio up louder but that only lasts so long before I go def. It turns out that one of the baffles in the muffler broke and was the cause of the noise.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Are there any other mufflers that you all could recommend to me? I kinda want a cherrybomb but that might be overboard.

Let me know what you all think.
Thanks

I just went to Advanced Auto Parts and bought an off the rack Thrush universal high performance muffler with 2 1/4" piping, it sounds great to my ears, a nice modest rumble that's not too loud. I didn't want my KJ sounding like a chain saw running down the road, and that's pretty much what you'd get with a V-6 and a Cherry Bomb.....(or any other glass pack)....

The Thrush is a few inches shorter than the stock muffler so I just added an extension piece to the outlet side, three clamps ties the new muffler to the stock piping, and it's a solid installation....

I'm ticked that you went there and found one. I went all over the place locally and they all came back as "Not yet available." So annoying. :furious:

To the OP, you will want a 2.5in inlet and not the 2.25in. The stock muffler chokes the exhaust there and it's the only part that isn't already 2.5in. As for muffler choice, lots of people here like Magnaflow mufflers, if you're looking into something other than the Flowmasters. Glasspacks have varying results, but it's all what you want in sound that matters.

I have a Purple Hornies Glasspack coming off the flange (I cut right against the muffler so it is 2.25") with a turndown off the back of the muffler, removed the rest of the stock pipe, And it sounds good, very rumbly at idle, a little loud/almost diesel-ish at lower RPMs, and I screams at High RPMs.

*note that the Purple Hornies are Jeep mufflers, and are thus designed to be used on jeeps with 4/6/8cyl alike*

It doesn't sound Rice though.

I want to get a flowmaster super 44 when I get the $$.

but only to kill the drone on long trips

Get yourself a DynoMax Ultraflow SS. It's a freeflow muffler at 2.5in in/out, sounds nice and mellow at lower RPM's and let's out a nice growl when you get on it. Plus it's Stainless and will last forever. Very solidly built to.

I was back in there about two days ago and they still had one left. There were 4 of them the day I bought mine, now they're down to one, and that's assuming it's still there......
