If that is really true, then what makes it needed in the gassers? Just wondering....I change water pump on my nephews 05 3 yrs ago, did full flush and put green stuff back in and he's not had a problem and put 60-70K miles since flush. Like I said, just curious

The old green stuff(AKA Ethylene Glycol) is rather hard to find these days, just because it's green does not means it's Ethylene Glycol which is also known as a AIT coolant. It is a high silicate based coolant and it looses it protection after 2 years.
HOAT coolants are low silicate based and can retain there protection for up to 5 years, standard on all '01+ Fords and '02+ Chryslers among other makes and models.
OAT coolants(AKA Dexcool) have no silicates and eat some types of plastic, the same plastic your water pump impeller is made out of in a 3.7/4.7/5.7.
All of Prestones coolants regardless of color are OAT coolants. All CAT coolants are OAT coolants also.
