I am having an issue finding it near by. Is anyone else? Advance, autozone, pep boys, walmart, Kmart and Target in my area don't sell Zerex G-05. They all have dex-cool, generic green stuff and universal coolant. Pep boys and advanced told me to just use the univeral stuff but I don't think thats the correct chemisty, is it?

I have not tried Napa as they were closed, I plan to call and ask tomorrow.

Try NAPA but i had to get mine from my local dealer i mean you only need 2 gallons of it if your doing a full flush. And my parts guy only charged me 12 a piece for the gallons and thank you Troy completely forgot about Ford using it. I wouldn't use anything else because of some of the other ones chemical properties. Remember these are itailian motors and exspensive to repair so i would stick as closely as possible to thier guide lines.

Yes i will be doing a flush and fill along with new thermostat install. thanks for the fast responces. I will try NAPA and ford if NAPA dont have it. I'm not paying what the local stealer wants. I can't believe that the stores don't sell it or the parts stores just telling me use the universal stuff, I knew better and didn't think that could be correct. I'm not trusing my engine to some suposed to be magic one for all goop.

"Zerex G 05 is a
nitrite containing coolant designed to protect diesel engine
cylinder liners from cavitation." That's reason enough for me to decide I must use it over all others.

Ok NAPA has it!!! I Just called one of the local stores and the guy told me they had a few gallons left in stock or could get more. I am still puzzeled why none of the mass market retail or auto parts stores are selling the G-05. I would think the with so many Chrysler vehicles and newer Ford's out on the road, even all those Chrysler mini vans there would be more demand for it you would think. Maybe those people beleive the marketing that the universal stuff is the same and good enough.

I looked at it and Prestone's universal don't say it has the nitrites to prevent crosion to the cylinder liners of our diesel engines so I'm assuming it doesn't. Prestone does make a Heavy duty long life coolant that they say is for all diesel engines in a black jug but I have never seen it anywhere. It is a replacement for Pencool what ever that is.

Since Zerex G-05 is the approved aftermarket coolant and I can get it thats the stuff to use.

If that is really true, then what makes it needed in the gassers? Just wondering....I change water pump on my nephews 05 3 yrs ago, did full flush and put green stuff back in and he's not had a problem and put 60-70K miles since flush. Like I said, just curious :dizzy:

Well in reality Chrysler offers two kinds of anti-freeze the one those in our jeeps and then another type. I have no i dea what the other one is used for but i do know it is green. So maybe there are just a hand full of vehicals that use it and just not enough call for it yet.
Just my :2cents:

No idea why its needed in gassers either. HOAT has been factory fill for MB since 1984 acording to Zerex's web site where I copied that other quote above. Ford has also made HOAT Spec on thier newer cars and from what I read they even have a warning sticker under the hood that says no orange coolants or Dex-cool. I see a lot of warranties being voided in the next few years because folk are going to believe that prestone universal is ok when HOAT is called for. Prestone is OAT fomunla same as DEX-Cool but dyed yellow from what I have read. Prestone was asked not to make this "universal" claim but declined to do so.....see linky http://www.gohtsn.com/article_321.shtml

The old green stuff(AKA Ethylene Glycol) is rather hard to find these days, just because it's green does not means it's Ethylene Glycol which is also known as a AIT coolant. It is a high silicate based coolant and it looses it protection after 2 years.

HOAT coolants are low silicate based and can retain there protection for up to 5 years, standard on all '01+ Fords and '02+ Chryslers among other makes and models.

OAT coolants(AKA Dexcool) have no silicates and eat some types of plastic, the same plastic your water pump impeller is made out of in a 3.7/4.7/5.7.

All of Prestones coolants regardless of color are OAT coolants. All CAT coolants are OAT coolants also.

I grew tired of running around wasting fuel looking for it so I just get it from the dealer.

I got 2 gallons at NAPA today :) 13.50 each and not eligable for AAA discount witch sometimes makes NAPA more attractive than other places but they don't discount most fluids  Still probably cheaper than the dealer.
