Hello everyone. I have been checking out this site a bit, and decided to join. I have a 08 kk sport. I purchased it new back in 08, and still paying a s**t load on it lol. I haven't really done anything to it, still bone stock. Im still deciding if I want to start beefing her up or wait to break even on payments and trade her in for something more capable. I've seen a lot of kk owners doing many upgrades to their jeeps and going out and conquering land with them, which i'm very impressed with. I want a truck that can be a beach buggy, I haven't brought my kk on the beach yet. And I also want that aggressive stance and look to it, and still keeping it as a daily driver. Is it worth the upgrades on the libby? Or is it smarter to wait for an upgrade to a wrangler or something. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for this amazing site.

Welcome aboard,

I see you have a lot of questions pertaining to mods. First and foremost, you need to weigh your options.

How often do you offroad?(then decide how badly you "need/want" a lift)
What kind of lift should I get? (Spacer/Coil over)
Can I afford this? (pros/cons)

These are just a few of the basic questions. You also need to figure out how much you drive your KK as a DD. Reason being is if you're driving 40K miles a year then you'll need to replace components such as suspension and such more often than someone who drives 15K miles a year.

Look at your options, then look at your finances and weigh you options using facts instead of opinions. This keeps me out of trouble :SOMBRERO:

Personally, I think the KK makes a great DD/Weekend Warrior. It's really versatile enough that you can actually throw stuff in the cargo area if you want to go on a trip somewhere (unlike a wranglers limited room/use) and still conquer some 'lighter' off-road terrain. The towing capability over the wrangler also sold me because I plan on making a cross-country move when I go back to school (trailering furniture, etc). If you're looking at mudding/crawling then yeah, I would switch to something else. I wouldn't be interested in doing those things though unless I had some beater that I didn't really care if I wrecked (I have thought about buying an older used/cheap truck for this purpose).

To answer your question about the aggressive look, I've thought through this as well and I'm going to wait until I pay it off this year before I think about lifting/putting some bigger tires on it (easier said then done when I look through pictures of people's modded libby's)

SETexasLibby said it correctly..

I think thats the best piece of advice.
You need to figure out exactly what you want from your DD/beach buggy.

The Liberty, especially the KK can be a beast if you do the correct modifications.
The KK is a smoother Daily Driver ride versus the JK.
Not to mention the conversion to Wrangler is a lot more money in the long run. The Wrangler is already a good 7k more than the Liberty (at least it was with my configurations). Then you have to start the upgrades. Yes, the Wrangler in stock form can tackle quite a bit of terrain, but if you want that aggressive stance and look, then you will want to add a lift and tires, which comes out to a little more than the lift on the liberty.. Not to mention the other 'not so necessary' mods you can do to the Wrangler, which add up quickly.

Going back to what you want your vehicle to actually do (offroad), is another big aspect of your decision.

Thanks for helping out everyone. Yea i don't really see myself doing any hardcore off roading, its mostly going to see the beaches and be my dd. As of right now i put around 20k a yr. I have been weighing out all the options that everyone has brought up. And it seems i have a lot of contemplating to do.

I did have a few quick questions..
Can the kk hold all the upgrades that everyone has been doing on here? What i mean is, does the engine and drivetrain stand up to the larger tires and added weight? Also do the axels last with everything as well?
